With so many "hate" threads, I thought I would post something a bit more positive. Personally I LOVE this game and expect to be playing it for years to come. And keeping with the "positive" vein I decided to post the current build that is working very nicely for me.
Level 36 Act 1 NM
Active skills:
Slot 1: Archon w/Arcane Destruction Rune
Slot 2: Magic Weapon w/ Force Weapon Rune
Slot 3: Diamon Skin w/Mirror Skin Rune
Slot 4: Familiar w/Spark Flint Rune
Left Click: Spectral Blade w/Deep Cuts Rune
Right Click: Disintegrate w/Chaos Nexus Rune
With Magic Wep and Familiar on
my damage goes from 574.03 to 815.06
Passives:
Blur, Evocation, Glass Cannon
How I use this build: My main attack is of course Disintegrate, then when creatures close with me, I use Spectral Blade. If things get hairy I turn on my Diamon Skin and keep attacking with a combo of my left/right clicks. If things get REALLY scary (I take a nasty hit) I trigger the Archon and destroy what ever is really giving me a hard time.
I use the Enchantress Follower, I just love her ability that turns monsters into chickens, not only hysterical I find it much more useful than the Charge ability of the Templar, which usually misses anyhow. They really need to work on this path-finding more.
Please post your Character level, and what act/Difficulty you are on.
Along with a similarly formatted Active Skills/Passive Skills list.
Oh yeah, don't forget your pre and post buff damage.

Level 59 Wiz. Act 3 Hell.
Spectral Blade > Thrown Blade
Ray Of Frost > Cold Blooded
Diamond Skin > Crystal Shell
Blizzard > Frozen Solid
Magic Weapon > Force Weapon
Mirror Image > Extension of Will
Passives
Glass Cannon
Arcane Presence
Cold Blooded
I have about 28k life and 10k dps with magic weapon on.
The whole point of the build was to Crowd Control groups. I obviously haven't soloed much since using this setup because it's somewhat hybrid. Probably not optimal but... I will usually Throw 1 blizzard to slow / freeze group, throw ray of frosts on main targets and when low on Arcane Power, I'll throw a last blizzard and go spectral blade while diamond skined if getting aggro alongside my mirror images 3-4 seconds after diamond skin. Then when full Arcane i will either throw 4 blizzards and back off or throw 1 and start shooting ray of frost again. My DPS seems okay at this point, definitely not awesome but I rarely die and can solo/run easily if **** gets bad.
I have found myself tanking more often than not because for some reason even monks ( and ****ty barbarians ) have less life than me, less so when using my tools.
I usually switch Glass Cannon for reduced cooldown passive when in need of more CC for Diamond skin / mirror image.
level 60 wizard, cleared Inferno, mainly farming act 3 Inferno now.
Active skills:
Slot 1: Diamond Skin with Crystal Shell or Mirror Image with Duplicates (going back and forth)
Slot 2: Energy Armor with Force Armor (what can you do)
Slot 3: Teleport with Wormhole
Slot 4: Magic Weapon with Force Weapon
Left Click: Disintegrate with Convergeance or Chaos Nexus (going back and forth)
Right Click: Hydra with Venom Hydra
Passives:
First slot: Astral Pressence
Second slot: Illusionist
Last slot: have been switching between Glass Canon, Temporal Flux and Blur.
Planning to mess around some more. Mainly to try out Blizzard in end-game, out of D2 nostalgia. But also to look at good alternatives for disintegrate, to see if I can get a sparflint archon build working for my act 3 runs, to use slow time some more, to work Wave of Force or Frost Nova back into the build... there's so much to choose from :-)
Level 60 Wizard, Act 4 Inferno
Slot 1: Blizzard w/ Snowbound
Slot 2: Energy Armor w/ Force Armor
Slot 3: Magic Weapon w/ Force Weapon
Slot 4: Teleport w/ Fracture
Left Click: Hydra w/ Venom Hydra
Right Click: Mirror Image w/ Duplicates
Passives:
Blur
Illusionist
Galvanizing Ward
I always feel a little icky about galvanizing ward. It Sort of feels like a wasted slot, but having the duration be long enough that I don't have to refresh during fights is just nice. The hp/s is nice too, even though it doesn't scale, it is better than nothing. I've run with snowbound in that slot instead but missed galvanizing ward.
Looking at Frostlion's build it is interesting to see that I'm not the only Inferno Wizard not running a signature spell. When you spend half your time running around, you have plenty of AP to cast your spells when you do actually stop to cast them.
I've done a tap the source build instead of blizzard also, which speeds up farming, but also results in more dying than the blizzard build.
Not running a signature spell ? How can you not run a signature spell ? Did i miss something ? haha !
Posting setup is all nice. Seeing the base stats would be even more interesting! I don't have mine ready at the moment, so will go from what i have in memory:
Level 52 Wizard, Act 1 Hell
Slot 1: Diamond Skin / Crystal Shell
Slot 2: Magic Weapon / Force Weapon
Slot 3: Magic Missile / Seeker
Slot 4: Archon / Pure Power
Left Click: Hydra / Arcane Hydra
Right Click: Arcane Orb / Obliteration
Passives:
Evocation
Critical Mass
Temporal Flux
Strength: ~
Intelligence: ~
Dexterity: ~
Vitality: ~
Damage Reduction: ~
Dodge Chance: ~
Resistances: ~
Armor: ~1100
DPS: ~4200 with Force Weapon
Don't know the stats out of my head yet. Will complete this later.
Interesting to see what kind of different builds work in Inferno and that obviously the rest is just a decent gearcheck, farming for those items or getting them with some coin.
The slow generated through 3 skills is really nice and i am able to even control some fast elite groups better than before.
Seeker MM plays out real nice, just as Arcane Orb, though the piercing version will be my next choice.
Otherwise Diamond Skin is up whenever available, just as Archon, though i prefer to keep Archon for big groups and elite packs. Critical mass, even without increased crit chance and increased critical damage already shows its worth by lowering the cooldowns for Diamond Skin and Archon significantly in addition to the benefit from Evocation.

magicrectangle:
I certainly agree about Galvanizing ward. In fact, I ran with that for a lot of the time too. I only switched it out when I got a chest armor with over 500 life regen. It would be great if it was 1% life instead of just 310 at level 60.
In general, I see a lot of similarities. I used Blizzard with snowbound for a long time too, but ended up switching it out for Magic Weapon when I realised how much more that gave me than just 15% damage. I used Teleport with fracture for most of my run and only switched in Wormhole for Rakanoth (and never went back).
Zionized and magicrectangle:
I felt weird about not using a signature spell for a long time too, and I had been using Electrocute with Chain Lightning. However, as magicrectangle says, the more time you have to spend moving, the less time you have to drain your AP. Combine that with the regen from Astral Pressence and 'AP on crit' items and you do surprisingly well. In fact, running out of AP saves my life as often as not, because it forces me to get back and not be a suicidal hero: I have to fall back, because I can't do anything anymore anyway. That's the same reason I've started stacking IAS: burst them fast, get out fast.
For magicrectangle it would be even better: both his damage spells are single cast and then last for a long time, and Blizzard is runed for low AP cost, so his AP probably doesn't even run out that often.
melianor:
my stats off the top of my head:
Damage Reduction: 55-60%
Dodge Chance: ~20%
Resistances: 350-400
hitpoints: 40K - 45K
life regen: ~1000
Armor: 5K
DPS: 35K-40K (mainly due to 62% IAS and about 40% crit chance and a crit damage weapon with an added flawless star emerald in the socket).
That's exactly right, I kite with it in short bursts. However, because of my high IAS and especially with Temporal Flux, you can sometimes burn almost your complete mana pool before you have to move back, making those 'short bursts' a lot longer than you might think.
That said, I do consider switching in Arcane orb or Blizzard every once in a while, but so far, I like feeling like I'm actually directly burning down my enemies and especially in tight corners, like on the act 3 bridges, the amount of enemies you can hit is amazing.
Yea, that's what I miss most about Disintergrate. I feel like if I'm running just Blizzard and Hydra, I'm not actually doing any direct damage to them. Obviously that's just physiological. Perhaps when I gear up to your level I could start using different spells again.
