My main MF character right now is a bowazon. Now, I'm in 1.09, so keep that in mind, but I use FA to mow down Pindle & crew, which is completely viable in 1.13, if I'm not mistaken.
She wears Tal's armor + helm + belt with pTopazes for 216MF, and some nice rare gloves and War Travs to boot. She has good kill speed, leech, resists, and even some MDR with this setup.
Your post made me want to make an amazon again and I'll probably do so next weekI respec'd my zon to LF and can kill pindle on p7 in about 25-30 seconds.)
Your time is a little slower than 'the norm' but it's /p7, he usually dies instantly but it's no concern. For items I can hook you up with a Titan's Revenge and a Harmony bow that you can use to get there faster if you want. And probably some upgrades to your Nagels. Rhyme shield is a decent choice for MF. Tancred's Boots (which you already have) and amulet can get you 78% extra MF.
You can try to do a few hundred runs and see what you can get (and compare your finds to Bato's in this recent thread here).
Best thing you can do...and if he spawns LE it is pointless so I S&E.
One last thing, LF is a pretty strong skill that does not require synergies to be effective (only +skills). A fishyzon for example only maxes LF and CS then puts the rest into FA and it's synergy (while of course taking useful passive except Valk/D/A/E). So what I'm trying to say is that there are many ways to build this character (max LF/CS+synergies with no valk, LF/CS with max Valk, fishyzon, LF/CS+decoy+passives and whatever you can think of).
Thanks for the Tancred idea I have an amulet as well. I have a 4 socket crusader bow, but the funny part is I have no ith runes. I am sure I could cube up some eth's. If you have some extra items that you can share I would gratefully accept, even if it is a loan and I can give them back at a later time.
For my skills after respec I put 5 to crit 6 to pierce max valk 1 to all the other prereq. 20 LF 20 CS all the prereq and I have 16 unspent skill points.
Drop me a PM with your email and I'll send you over some items.
PM sent
The Harmony takes a few seconds off, which I guess adds up in the long run. I have taken my time down to ~20 seconds on p7 just by running faster and being a little more accurate with my throws. I can drop Pindle now while there are usually still 2 or 3 minions left.
I haven't found anything great yet but I found a few low level set items. The all powerful green breastplate! and 2 sigon pieces.
I will have to start keeping track of stuff, like # of runs and items/
I have done 200 pindle runs now, I know it is not much. I have my MF up to 410 now. I have found some decent stuff, but I had to mix in some cow runs to keep from getting bored. 50 pindle 5 cows then 50 pindle etc. At first I was changing gear when doing cows but then I just left the MF stuff on, as moving items around constantly was getting annoying and I didn't notice much difference in my speed of slaying cows.
On pindle I haven't found any TC 87 items yet, but I found some other useful things.
Homunculus, Dwarf star, Carrion wind, Fleshripper, Wizzard spike, spectral shard, a few class set items gris armor nat armor I am sure I found more set items I can't think of them off hand though. I also got 2 summoning skills GC unfortunately 1 was for druid.
On cows runs I haven't found a rune higher than shael yet. I did find IK maul and another carrion wind though. I have 2/3 of the Cow king set now. I also found another Summoning skills GC for necro.
1 unfortunate problem I have is I keep getting an unhandled exception error if I push w to switch weapons on the loading screen. Happens about 1 in every 70 pindle runs or so and I haven't gotten into the rhythm of switching back to harmony before S&E.
On the bright side though I am killing pindle easily in 15 sec counting load times. If I see an item I want to grab it adds a second or 2, and if he is LI it takes my valk, merc, and myself about 5 seconds to poke him to death, he never tries to hit me and if I position myself behind valk or merc I don't get hit by his charged bolts so I find this an acceptable time sacrifice.
Thanks again for everyone that gave me some tips and other useful info, also to Ilandalar for the items they helped me immensely. If anyone wants I can try and keep this updated every so often with my finds.
Please do! I love seeing other people's run results. It's great motivation.
I can't say I have much to add, but I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Wealth runeword. It was fairly instrumental to my early untwinked MF successes and helped me build a good foundation of items, some of which also had the MF property. Also, before you find a pair of war travs, you can shop boots that have up to 35% MF on them, and never forget god's gift to broke MFer's, the mighty Ptopaz. It sounds like you're already past this point, but maybe other noobs like us could find this info useful.
When I was poor my MF gear (if I recall correctly) consisted of rare gloves with about 20% mf, a couple of low-end Nagels, a 3-soc grand crown with Ptopazes, a Rhyme shield, a 4-soc armor with Ptopazes (later Wealth), a rare ammy with MF, and a Goldwrap. I can't figure the total MF off the top of my head, but it's fairly respectable and allowed me to build a nice store of items. Only problem is that your entire setup is built for MF and little else, so you've gotta go with a build that doesn't depend on gear. Others have already mentioned the fishymancer, and I think it's a good first character if untwinked MF is your MO.
Anyway, glad to hear you're having some success with Pindy. He's a boring little SOB, but if you have the patience, he'll pay off over the long run. Frankly, I've been avoiding old boney like the plague after my 1k...think I burnt out on him. He is dull, dull, dull. A85s (pits, AT, WSK) are far more interesting. One last question...any particular reason you're running Pindy/AT on P7?
I was doing high P settings for experience really and minions drop better. At least I think they do anyways. I very well could be wrong, but I know the exp is definitely better. Gained lv 89 after 100 or so runs, plus whatever cows I killed. I did cows on P1 it was way too long to kill cow packs on P8.
I have not tried AT since respecing to LF I imagine the mages there would laugh at me. I did try maggot lair for some odd reason and the beetles laughed at me. This was when I started getting bored after my first 50 Pindles and needed a change of scenery. Then I remembered Cows. I rerolled the cow map 4 times I like the one I have now but tristram is a bit far from WP like 15 seconds walk. The cow map is a big circle and the portal is right next to the Kings fort, so I start there make my way around when I reach the fort again I know I'm done.
I have not timed myself on cow runs but I imagine they are horrible in terms of speed. Takes me at least 5 minutes to run around the map and kill all of them. I really should try finding a run timer or something, I have been using my watch up 'til now. I tried searching internet and this forum for the term "run timer" but I can't find anything.
As for my drops I have put every item I got from Pindle and cows into 1 stash, except for the runes and gems. if I manage anything ist or higher I might include it in that stash, but for now nothing is really worth mentioning rune wise. Eventually I might post a flavie report of that stash, or if I can figure out this txt dump thing maybe one of those. Though I would imagine that would be incredibly long. It already has 48 S/U items and 1 rare diadem through only 200 runs on pindle and about 17 runs of cows.
The tiara is kinda sexy to I think anywaysSpoiler
I was just curious about that. I ran him on p1 and wondered if you would recommend it based on the drops you were getting. Have you gotten anything worthwhile from the minions?
I use this run counter here. You can make profiles for each character you run with, as well as target profiles. Good stuff.
Off the top of my head, there aren't many A85s that are ideal for pure light characters. I'm running into the same problem right now with my light sorc. She's really fun, but I'm worried she's doomed to cows and Baal for the rest of her days. Same with my LF zon. If anyone has any insight on this, please share!
If it's runes you crave, I'd seriously recommend getting a sorc, decking her out in FCR gear, and running Countess/Lower Kurast. I feel like I bring this up a lot, but I had amazing luck in LK over the course of about 8k-9k runs. Enough to make an Enigma, a pair of CtAs, and a few other nice toys. It's certainly not the most stimulating thing you can do with this game, and it gives pindy a run for his money in terms of sheer tear-your-hair-out boredom, but if you want those high-end runewords in a short amount of time, I'd suggest TKing those corpses and popping those chests out in the jungle. A good run only takes me about 25-30 seconds, not counting load times. You can also get some really nice charms and jewels too. I found a perfect 40/15 there, and about 30 skillers.
I have not had the minions drop anything i would consider great. A Ko rune and I am pretty sure 1 of them dropped a waterwalk. a few charms and jewels here and there. Other than that it was mostly white/blue with the occasional yellow item that I don't even bother to look at.
I had considered trying to do LK runs. The problem with that is, I am just god awful with sorcs and at teleporting. I just can't seem to not get insta-owned by something as I am teleporting around. In the last week I lost 3 sorcs before I even made it to nightmare. 1 of them I loaded up with a bunch of decent MF items. The only way I think I could survive with a sorc through the leveling up process is to not put a single point into teleport, I am serious if you saw me play a sorc you would point at me and laugh.
During a cow run I did find a Lo rune last night or morning not exactly sure on what time it was.
On an unrelated note... I have been playing D2 for way too long yesterday/today. I have been doing Meph and CS for leveling the past couple hours, it is amazing how fast charged strike drops meph and diablo. I am ~75% of the way to lv 91. I was almost falling asleep while killing Diablo in my last run, so I figure it's time to call it quits before I fall asleep and my only good character gets killed. Changing things up keeps me interested though, I don;t think I could ever just do 1000 runs of something straight of anything in this game.
Lastly thanks for the run counter link, I downloaded it but am too tired to try figuring it out now. I will definitely try it out later after some sleep.
