Just to verify... you always lose ALL armor when dying??

Testing out Diablo II after 4 years in WoW... finding it tricky to learn how to play it... following guides as best I can but the biggest frustration is when I die and then lose all my armor. Takes a while to get gold... I buy stuff then poof... its gone. I can't find any info on this. Is this how it is through the whole game? I learned how losing gold works when you die but can't find anything on this armor topic.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

When you die, you will left your corpse( include your armor, weapon) at the place you die. You can go back to the place you die to retrieve it. Or you can save and exit and the corpse will be at town. (Cautious) If you die once and go back to take your corpse, and you accidentally pick up a weapon or armor before you click on your corpse, you cannot completely take everything from your corpse if you do not have enough space on your inventory. Furthermore if you die again and leave a second corpse, please do not save and exit as only one corpse will be found in town if you do so. I lost my Hoto that way..

Your 'lose ALL armor when dying ' will occur when you are playing hardcore. However, when you die at hardcore mode, you will not only lose all your items and armor, but your whole character as well. That is why i am quite impress by hardcore player that is able to complete the whole game.

Your kidding! Well that is a huge relief... and also a bit upsetting... as I've left armor all over not realizing I could get it back! :-) I have printed out pages of game info I found online to read and in no place does it say anything about dying or what you just told me.

Thank you SO much for that detailed info. That helps a lot.

When I first started, I was under the impression that if I didn't retrieve my corpse on the first death, I would lose all my items. That led to some pretty hair-raising moments like running naked into a pack of pit archers. So you weren't alone in your confusion :-)

Haha! I was wondering how I was going to manage getting my corpse with no gear till I was told it was in town!
