Well it finally happened!

So throughout my hardcore experience I have trolled the boards reading all these random deaths and glitch deaths people have had. Until yesterday I had never experienced one myself. Don't get me wrong, I've had characters die, Lost a level 27 barb, 37 barb, 42 monk and finally yesterday, I lost my 56 Barb.

My barb was sword and board, and progressing through hell act 2 nicely. Rocking a little over 35k hp and close to 4.5k dps things didn't seem terribly difficult. I killed a pack of arcane enchanted/jailer/molten fallen. After killing the pack, I dodged the explosions but didn't see the normal loot that drops off the last mob in a pack. Thats when I realized I was still being attacked. Only problem was there was no enemies on my screen. Then I started to see the arcane orbs popping up and I was still being jailed. Quite a predicament I found myself in.

The damage was actually fairly negligible but I knew I had to get out of the zone in order to fix this. I started running back to town (act 2 town, first quest out). So I finally get back to town and zone out. I stop taking damage so figure little invisible monster glitch is done and I begin to empty my inventory and clean up my stash a bit before getting off to auction after the odd experience.

Thats when a mob enrage timer hits and I begin taking damage. Now I panic, I'm not really sure what to do. I mean, I'm in town. This has to be fixable? The first few ticks of the timer are negligible. They do next to nothing. I watch in confusion as my health slowly depletes. To be honest I was kind of in shock, I figured since I'm in town I can probably just use the healer and wait out this damn timer. Well, what I should have done is plug pulled. Apparently this enrage timer doesn't stop? And eventually just keeps getting worse and worse and worse? Well Sardath, our hero, ended up dying to a blue fallen in Act 2 Hell.

Anyways, just thought I'd share the tale! My demon hunter is now happily level 34 and I'm back in nightmare carefully picking my way back up to hell. IF anyone wants to play, hopefully glitch free, add me up Sarf#1156 america servers.

you can save exit in town, for future reference

Dude... with all due respect (nice story btw) I have to ask this in the name of all the forum readers. Why Did Not You Log Out? You were in town. It'd have been instant. Why? It pains me to see that your lvl56 char died to this silly mistake:(

The enrage timer dot is getting worse by time, so yeah, it basically kills you if you let it stay on you for long.

To be honest with you, habit stopped me from logging out. See after playing D2 hardcore for so long I got into the habit of panic exiting. Finally after losing a couple of d3 characters and my last action being the same attempted panic exit. I've managed to train myself not to do it. You see, the one thing that could have saved my life here is the same thing that has caused me so much grief to try and stop doing.

I know it sounds silly especially since I'm an old school D2 Hardcore player OP XbananaX repping. But, I've actively tried to stop myself from doing it -_- He does however look good in my archive, and the level 50 achieve is still there so I guess I haven't lost that much :P
