Does attack speed increases whirlwind's hit speed? . I cant explain myelf clearly I guess. Can you comment on IAS and whirlwind? how does ias affect ww?
Phenomenal build, jus a question: Instead of a Mighty Weapon for the +3 to Fury x hit could be viable to use an Axe or Mace instead? With Weapon Master the crit chances would rise another +10% which could leave space in Revenge to chose Provocation or Vengeance is Mine.
I've really been enjoying this build, it actually feels like the good old D2 Barbarian. Unlike my previous seismic slam/earthquake, which felt more like playing a druid. I'm currently lvl 58 in Hell act 3, and my 220 damage lvl 51 spear is starting to show its "age." The question is do I switch now, or try to hold out for lvl 60 and a "end game" weapon?
Couple of observations:
You need a minimum of ~18% critical hit unbuffed for the build to function. - Don't for get the Scoundrel gives a 3% bonus, and slow + multi-arrow can be very handy (at least on hell).
IAS does seem to affect whirlwind: haven't tested it extensively, but going from a 1.5% crit/7% IAS ring to a 2.5 crit/20 res all ring, noticeable dropped my whirlwind "duration."
Superstition passive + Ghorm = endless whirlwinds. Good fun!
Switch weapons every 2-3 levels, especially past level 50. Don't pay more than 10k, and even 5k can get the job done.
I all but gave up on my Barb. I was running into trouble in Act 1 Inferno, but I was told it was probably more my skill than stats. The fact is I was getting bored with the barb build I was running. I wanted to run a WW build since before the game was released.
Basically, is this build viable for me to farm Act 1 Inferno with the following stats:
25k health (or something like that.. haven't been on my barb in a few days)
7500ish armor
600ish resist all (with buff)
I think I was around 12k dps
I was doing the standard frenzy, revenge, stomp/leap, charge, zerk build... do you think with the above stats, I could do this build in act 1? I really want to do a WW build, but up until this post, I didn't think it was too viable.
Also, should I do as others said and sacrifice some of my resist all for some vitality to get some more health?
Great post. It has me more interested in the Barb again!
Wish this could be done in HC, sadly its not posible.
Easiest way to answer if it is viable with certain stats is to basically try it, hard to speculate if it will work.
As many of you noticed, big part of this is just good gear, what d3 is all about. There are no shortcuts (aside maybe from easiest defensive/revenge which performs best with weakest gear). But overall you just need good items to progress through inferno, balanced gear with pretty much every stat barbarian needs, only then stuff starts to work. This is something you need to work for a long time, as such items just cost a lot.
I was trying to make this work also in act3, but this is whole new level of difficulty. What greatly improves efficiency of ww healing is crit chance, which we pretty much can't increase above certain level (missing just few % to perf max value on items), and another one is health. Skill based on %max life, heals more once we have more health. To make crit heal 1000 hit points, we would need 100k health. This with high str and resist, is reasonable goal, just will take some time to put hands on all these items.
I use this build while farming act1 with MF gear on. If you have Axe and some ias on items, you are perfectly fine. Just pick weapon master and Ruthless, and if gear allows I run with extra duration on shouts. Crit rune on revenge is the best choice.
10 +5 % crit from passives and then I think I have 7.5% crit from gear and while frenzy 20% dmg inc on, I do over 25k dps with 800 dps weapon, even more when 12% extra from revenge procs.
Build that makes farming runs with baba great fun
I did test version with 90% crit chance, and unfortunately, it does not allow permanent ww against single target. It seems to me, that "into the fray" rune of battle rage, does not trigget +15 fury each crit, but there is only a chance for that. Otherwise with nearly 100% crit chance, you should easilu sustain full fury orb, just by comparing the numbers (cost of ww vs amount of hits and crits).
Still to make this build work past act 2 inferno, we need sick gear, or use it with defensive cooldown buffs, because character is just not meant to go melee without any extra protection. Whirlwind will provide just enough healing, to keep us healed, with leap defense bonus, or ingore pain 7s version, but without it, not with godly items.
