    Question Single target DPS?

Hey, a question. How do you deal with single target dps? I use dart with splinters, which seems OK especially since the mana cost is negligible. But is there anything more effective?

Level 46 at NM act 3 currently, and struggling a bit with the boss packs. My main skills are locust swarm and acid cloud - obviously aoe centric, but so far splinter darts have been sufficient along side. Other slots: Soul harvest (60sec) and Gargantuan (restless) for tanking, Spirit Walk (honored guest) for escape and mana. Thanks for your thoughts!

    Re: Single target DPS?

Getting rings/gloves with attack speed helps out a TON, so I'd recommend looking into that as soon as you can get it without sacrificing all your int/vit.

Skill-wise, Haunt deals some nice damage to a single target and you can even get it to heal you at the same time.

Then there's the Vision Quest + Zombie Bears build, if you want to go there. Just replace bears with Dire Bats and you're set. Does nicely against single targets and mobs. Here's the link - http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculato...dQP!UbV!aaZYbb. You can switch Spiritual Attunement for Jungle Fortitude if you never find yourself going OOM, but I liked being able to spam away all day long on NM. You can also switch Soul Harvest rune to Siphon if you'd rather take the healing.

    Re: Single target DPS?

I'm surprised Spirit Barrage hasn't been mentioned - that skill was MADE to give the WD some much-needed single-target killing power.

And let me tell you, Spirit Barrage is damn good at what it does. If you're in Inferno, ranged badguys hurt quite a bit, even those skeleton archers. But with Spirit Barrage, you can just shoot them from behind pillars and stuff. It's great that you can hit them but they can't hit you :P.

Also, Spirit Barrage will hit what you WANT it to hit (unlike Splinters), which means that Rare packs with the Invulnerable Minions affix can be realistically defeated. Even Wizards must struggle more than WDs against those packs, I think.

And how annoying is it when a low-health Fire Chains elite moves behind a high-health one, so that you can't Poison Dart it to death, and you have to try and survive a full-strength Elite pack for even longer? Not a problem with Spirit Barrage.

I have an Inferno build with Spirit Barrage as my primary attack (runed with The Spirit is Willing and with the Rush of Essence passive). I can solo almost everything except the Butcher just because my gear isn't good enough to kill him before his enrage timer comes up. But yeah, I feel that's more a problem with my gear than Spirit Barrage being bad....I certainly don't do any better with Splinters :P. The only time I can beat the Butcher solo is when I use that flavour-of-the-week build with Zombie Bears and Big Bad Voodoo :P.

    Re: Single target DPS?

In nightmare, I used a massive slow 2-h that did 138dps. My dps was about 2100. Exploding frogs are my "cleave". Leaping spiders are my fire and forget missiles. Late in Act 3, I acquired a 1-h "mana-user" sword that had wicked life gen/conversion, intel, etc. Its dps was about 126. In Act 3 and 4 this weapon made everything possible. Now I was moving and attacking faster. In act 4, the mobs got seriously intense; especially when the barb gathered as many as he could. With another level gain, I got the confusion frogs which gave some nice help until we reached the top.

For boss fights I used the spirit barrage +healing, leaping spiders, cheerleader zombie wall, spirit walk for mana gen, confusion for +20% dmg and fetish army. Passive skills were mana related. For Diablo I swapped out fetish army for big bad healing voodoo. That skill saved me and a warrior with every use.

Re-read your post and it seems you may be trying to solo the champion packs? In that case, leaping spiders or exploding toads, zombie wall, fetish army, grasp of the dead (with low cool down), hex or spirit walk, mass confusion or soul harvest with slowing effect. Passives should be vision quest, blood ritual and pierce the veil. Dps should be at 1800+. Hex is a nice possible option to help ease the pain of too many champion. This little guy helped me take down the 1k pounder pack.
