Huh. Once I got the Quicksilver rune, which finally makes it reasonably priced, I feel like I can't live without Dash. I wish the animation was snappier too but it's extremely useful and versatile. I love it. Just wish the other runes were more useful. (Why the hell would I want 3 secs of movement speed after Dashing? to a monster??)
I figure the +speed is useful when you are using DS to get out of a cluster of enemies and need to create some breathing room. I still take the quicksilver rune, though.
Edit: One thing to note about DS is that it works while jailed. The jail effect will remain on you once the dash animation is done (unless you've got a lot of cc reduction), but it's super effective.

I like using WotHF with the blazing fists rune. I tried some of the other spirit generator skills but I always seemed to kill more quickly with WotHF and the blazing fists rune. The other generators just seem slow to attack. More than likely I'm doing something wrong. But that with lashing tail runed with scorpion sting and cyclone strike runed with wall of wind has made it very nice for me. I'm just starting Hell so there's probably some tweaking I need to do. My resists aren't that great so when I get home from work tonight I'm going to check out mantra of healing with the time of need rune to see if that helps with some of the champion and elite packs.
I liked wave of light but I just feel it's expensive to cast. And it never seemed like I could generate spirit quick enough to use it more than I felt I should be. I know there's a rune to reduce the amount of spirit needed to cast it but I like thed the explosive light rune better. That's why I opted to use WotHF and lashing tail. Faster attack speed when the rune procs and lashing tail being cheaper and having the ability to stun just seemed like a better option.
My only dislike I can think of are the daibo's. I tried one for about 2 seconds before I realized I was getting my butt kicked with it because my attack was so slow. Plus with a daibo I can't use a shield which can add a fair amount of stats.
Edit: I guess a lot of people use deadly reach as a ranged attack to keep out of danger. I hadn't really thought of that. I was thinking the monk was a more up close and personal fighter. Maybe I'll give that a try tonight to see if I like it. I'm assuming everyone uses the Templar as their follower so that he can tank?
