    Steady Aim or Archery?

Your weapon notwithstanding, what do you guys think is the better Passive - Steady Aim or Archery? ...or the decision really be dependent on what type of weapon is equipped?

Both. You need to kill stuff, and you prefer it to be far away from you when you do. Both of those skills are huge damage boosts that work basically all the time.

Been using Archery with a bow; Steady Aim isn't reliable enough when facing mods like Waller/Jailer/Teleport/Vortex IMHO.

That really depends on your gear/skill setup.

I actually have to agree w/ you both. But, as yertle points out, build matters, and given mine, I can only take one. the 20% dmg from Steady Aim isn't 100% reliable (although usually easy to get). I noticed a HUGE boost in dps using Archery w/ a hxb before I got Sharpshooter Passive. But now w/ Sharpshooter and having a hxb equipped, not sure if Archery is worth it.

So yeah, imo, gear/skill set up matters. But I still wanted to know what others thought, or if anyone even did some kind math behind it (assuming you're 10+ yds alone 80% of the time or something).

10 yards is basically melee range. Very, very close. It should be a fair chunk of the screen, but it isn't. I don't usually have any trouble in keeping that kind of space.

That is true, me neither really, but there are those times (wallers, laziness, etc). 10 yards is surprising deceptive in regards to how close it is. At least it seems that way in-game...

Just for the 10 yards, to get an idea, as well as all other distances in the game
    The art of distance

As for your question, I like Steady Aim. Haven't tried the other yet, and am still level 24 with the DH. So no real insight yet...

G.R.D. (That guide is just huge !)

hah, yeah I was actually going to refer to that lol, but I then realized it doesn't seem quite right. 10 yards = 30 feet. Which is roughly 10 big footsteps. According to that chart, 10 yards = about 4 big footsteps. But, I guess I gotta go by game mechanics and not reality mechanics!

edit: seriously, the more i look at that pic, the more I think mwille mistook yards for feet... but then again, those increase-pick-up-by-x-yard affixes seem to match that diagram.

But yeah...that's definitely not 50 yards of distance between DH and Barb...

    Re: Steady Aim or Archery?

I'd say the developers mistook yards for feet. Cuz judging by all the testing did in that guide, as well as all the things I noticed ingame, the barb measures 8 yards tall. And that's just not possible.

G.R.D. (yards is a weird concept in Diablo. And always was, even in D2)

    Re: Steady Aim or Archery?

I'm currently working my way through Inferno, so I'll try and explain why I made these choices.

I went with Steady Aim because the 10 yard distance, as shown in the graph posted, is actually really short. In Inferno, nothing should be that close to you (assuming you're not a melee DH). If something is within that short distance, your time should be spent getting the hell out of there, not attacking. Using a Smoke Screen build is typically the best way to do this. Sometimes you want to position yourself underneath the mortars, but even then, it's typically more than the 10 yards.

I also take on another damaging passive, which is Sharpshooter - for those that don't know, it continues to increases your crit until you have a critical attack, the crit percentage holds for one second. This is what replaced Archery for me. In Inferno you tend to move a little slower, and the time between battles is longer. I equip Impale with the 100% additional crit damage rune. I can fire off 3 Impales, all of which will crit, which is a very good opener. If there's trash I use Multishot with the 20 Hatred rune, so that I can spam that really quickly - it's make a sea of yellow numbers as everything dies fast.

    Hope that input helps.
