That's not the point at all. Just because Diablo 2 Classic sucked the big one, doesn't automatically give Diablo 3 the right to suck, as well. D2X fixed almost everything that was wrong with D2C and then some - and Blizzard should have built this game based on that.
I personally hope that people wake up and stop playing this game soon, just so that the developers at Blizzard will pull their heads out of their asses and actually give us a game that isn't so flawed. The fact that D3 came out the door in this state is completely unacceptable, and if I would have been a little smarter and ordered the digital copy of the game, I would have demanded a refund.
The reason this thread irritates me so much is that the Diablo series has so much going for it now, and will thrive for at least another decade.
One of my other favourite game series, Wing Commander, has been waiting 13 years since the last game, and there is still no sequel announced. It may die forever, despite still having an active fan community.
Another, Heroes of Might and Magic, is also dying a death. If you want to see a genuinely poor sequel to what was once a great game, look at Heroes of Might and Magic 5.
The Diablo series, seriously, has it SO good by comparison.
Don't you think it's kind of an emotional argument to even mention this though? Yeah, Wing Commander is dead...Origin is dead...Ultima is dead...These properties will return one day as browser games or MMOs, but what semblance will they be to the games you knew?
Diablo 3 won't have the longevity of Diablo 2. It's just not fun to play in the same way. The thing you hear repeatedly and overwhelmingly is that the game just feels trying and unrewarding after an hour or so. I think people have to face the facts that this game was made by an obviously less talented team, led by a guy with questionable vision, honesty, and credentials.
Like most posts that criticize the game, the OP (and others) decided to submit their opinion as fact. Since they see it that way, there is no possibility anyone else sees it differently.
If you want to get real feedback on the game, tell us why you don't like it, rather than stating absolutes and deciding only you know a hawk from a handsaw; you're entitled to not like the game, but your mileage may vary.
I doubt this will happen. Unless you honestly believe that no one can genuinely and honestly enjoy Diablo III, even while acknowledging it has flaws, there's no way you could expect people to just decide one day to agree with your point of view and stop playing.
If your arguments weren't so "all or nothing"/black and white on the matter, it might even be possible to have a discussion. As it stands now, though, there's no room for dissent in your expressed worldview. This makes actual conversation with you a pointless waste of time.
Another state-my-opinion-as-fact thread?
and all well-said, BellaStrega
I find killing monsters for its own sake rewarding, for far longer than an hour. I also do enjoy the story unfolding, and find plot development a good reward for my efforts. The thing you hear repeatedly and overwhelmingly is that the game just feels trying and unrewarding after an hour or so
However, I accept that finding items is a huge part of the game for many people, and that side of the game could be improved. Early on, there were so many different item properties that there were interesting choices, now I am maximising vitality, intelligence and damage and ignoring almost everything else. Interesting items would add a lot to the sense of reward. Awful as the '+skills' on item system was, it did make me feel like an item had substantially changed my character, past act 2 normal this has not happened for me in D3.
Effectively, anything that adds damage to your character is +skills, at least for dealing damage. It boosts your performance in every skill that deals damage.
Wouldn't mind seeing affixes that boost control effects (stun, freezing, horror, etc), although there are already affixes that add control effects to all of your attacks.
Agree TOTALLY D3 is **** in tha making that blissard is squeeezing out and anticipating gamers to catch!
