This is a question for those already possessing better gear: Do you still use soul harvest or use the slot for something else?
Right now, I am at the skill still somewhat triples my damage, even when stacking +int. And it has the advantage that you benefit from +damage items more. Of course the best way will be to use both but that stuff is rare /or expensive.
The bonus of 650 int still seems nothing to sniff at at level 60 but if I were to have that or more already from items and only would receive 1/3 more damage I'd choose something else.
The question is is that a realistic gear to obtain?
It is fantastic early on, especially because the int bonus is huge for the level u would be at. I switched it out once I got into Hell though. The problem with it is that u need to be close to mobs, and in the higher difficulties u can't afford to be that close to so many mobs. It's probably not a bad instant heal, but I think if u would probably prefer to use Spirit Walk if u were in that much trouble. So imo, use it in normal and nightmare, but switch it out after that.
I have to disagree. It's by far our biggest heal, and you can't stop things from getting close to you. Spirit walk is great and maybe better, but I like having both. If I get low, spirit walk into a pack and soul harvest will easily heal 10k+ at level 56 (almost 2k per target hit), and the damage bonus is substantial. It's not always great, such as vs bosses without adds, but for packs of guys it's a life saver. For bosses I'd rather have hedge mage or something else.
It is an amazing spell but it lost a space on my bar when I got into hell and was replaced by hex. Champ packs in hell and beyond will decimate you if you get too close so using soul harvest was not viable at least with my current gear set and I expect that to stay true as a progress through inferno. Prior I would run into a pack mass confuse with stun soul harvest and spirit walk out. I loved it and it was a favorite combo but now I just spend way too much time just kiting champ packs to make it viable.
I have starting hell gear and it's still ~40% damage boost for me, so it didn't deprecate as much as I feared it would. If I'm in a group and don't need hex for survivability, soul harvest/soul to waste goes in slot 2.
It is probably fine for group play, as u should have other people to tank for u. But in solo play... u spend most of your time kiting around for any mob that actually matters (i.e. champs etc). U should be able to decimate any normal mob without having to use soul harvest.
I really don't enjoy Soul Harvest. I'm in Inferno with 13214 DPS, and Soul Harvest increases that to 19331, which is simply too big an increase to ignore. Because of that I'm forced to spend a skill slot on it and also run into packs to reapply Soul Harvest every thirty seconds. I just find it a huge pain and chore, but no other single skill comes close to offering that huge DPS increase.
I love the class but it is hugely detracting to have to constantly keep the Soul Harvest buff up.
I have to agree - its too much of a loss to not take. The dmg is wicked and I use it to heal... And I use the mana regen on spirit walk
I have been using it in group play but less often in solo play but mostly because I don't really have much of a dps issue with solo play so survivability takes precedence. When I do use it though I use it with the either soul to waste which increases it to 60seconds or languish which slows.
I have now switched it for spirit walk since in act 2 hell the only way to beat champ packs solo is hit and run.
The bruiser Gargantuan helps a bit on stunning them but it can only stun one of them and the other 2 kill it within 5 seconds which is not enough to kill them.
