Question about passive skills "bloodthirst" and "superstition"

Ok had a question regarding the passive skill bloodthirst. It says "Gain 3% of all damage done as Life.". Does this work with a damage over time skill like rend? The health you get from runed life returned rend is quite nice as is, if bloodthirst can increase it that would be even sweeter.

Also a question about the passive superstition: "Reduces all non-Physical damage by 20%. Whenever you take damage from a ranged or elemental attack, you have a chance to gain 3 Fury."
Hadn't noticed this passive, seems very strong. Champion packs are most of the time it seems to me elemental enhanced in some form. From what builds people are posting though I don't see many that have it in use. Seems like it should be a staple pretty much, am I missing something?

If you are trying to tank something that is MOLTEN or PLAGUED and you just sit inside their nasty elemental puddle, you do gain Fury pretty damn fast I've noticed. Also death.
