I can't count the hours I've put on Diablo, and Diablo 2, it's my favorite game series of all time (don't take that lightly).
Im level 53 now, playing a witch Doctor, and i'm becoming more depressed as I play. Don't get me wrong the combat itself and the difficulty surpasses the previous games ten fold. And I've had so much fun plowing through mobs, and actually having some difficult times. I don't know if i'm spending too much time on the forums which is filled with nothing but problems with D3 ( And I sadly agree with almost all of them ). It's been said 1000x the item system blows, and even though I haven't hit the real end-game i've pretty much gathered that it's nothing like the Diablo series I love. I'm going to hit 60 within a day or two, and I plan to still put quite a few more hours into the game, but i'm honestly thinking that I wont be playing this game but for two or three weeks, which is ****ing sad. I should have known better, but I keep trying to put-off the obvious flaws that most likely aren't going to be changed.
This is pretty much a compilation of toned-down rage. I just hope within the next few days we get news from Blizzard saying they are trying to fix the ****ty design of end-game play.
What about the item system do you not like? I think there's two problems with items:
1. Legendaries being underpowered (which has been acknowledged by one blue at least, which means it is very likely we'll see adjustments there)
2. The inability to socket items devalues gems.
I love everything else about the item system, though.
First of all, where did you find this quote? I'd love to hear their thoughts on the matter.
Second, the item system has more issues than that.
3) mainstat and vit is too effective, easy to get, and nessesary for inferno. Everyone will eventually have mainstat vit on ALL items, simply because it is the best.
4) Gemsystem is way too simplified. There are too few gems, and the values are not balanced at all.
Ruby is the overall best, because it is the only one that increases weapon damage. Barb can use emerald since he has a high crit chance inherently, but everyone else is better off with a ruby.
For helms, the only real choice is topaz or amethyst. Topaz for hell, amethyst for inferno.
I personally think that it needs a revamp, because it's otherwise a great game (except sometimes when you lock your build in early and don't feel like you progress when you level up)
Got the same feeling as you, OP. I think this game will see HUGE decrease in number of people playing it in 2 or 3 weeks, heck, maybe even sooner. As for itemization, here are my thoughts:
1. Diablo was ALWAYS about hunting unique items, cause they were constant in their stats and their power – in D3 this concept is out of the window, unique items are far worse and they have absurd drop rates
2. 95% of rares is garbage meaning that there is no really sense of excitement when you see one dropped, you know in most cases it’ll be crap
3. Crafting – sorry, but it’s not MMO. Diablo is about HUNTING items in the wild not standing in town playing wheel of fortune
4. Low diversity in stats on items making them bland and uninteresting
Basically, the whole concept of items is taken straight from an MMO game and put into hack’n'slash game. Ridiculous and stupid idea.
I think the first bit is a pretty bit deal. That and the lack of stat variations. There are simply a lot of stats that are utterly and completely useless, and make you wonder why they exist on certain items to begin with, outside of sheer annoyance.
You're very optimistic. That's not a bad thing, really, but I doubt if Blizzard will make an adjustment anytime soon, if ever. Maybe in future patches and sequential legendaries that are later released will be better, but we will probably not see any adjustments on the current ones.
Probably the most non-legendary legandaries in any games.
Blizzard's laziness in actually attempting to balance difficult stats led to the sad state we're seeing now. Just main stats stacking. Everything else is comparatively worse. You honestly don't even have to think about your build/stats. Just stack your main stats, and you can't go wrong. The amount of brain function necessary for this game is pathetic at best.
I find myself in complete agreement with the open poster.Sure, I'm enjoying the game, but having capped 60, I'm coming to realize that this game is not going to keep me interested for longer than a month at best.
Despair is the right word for it, really. At sad iteration of the Diablo series.
Imo the problems with legendaries and sets arent that they are worse han rares, it is that they aren't specially tailored with a single purpose in mind. Like 1 legendary made perfect for a very specific type of barbarian spec for example. That would give them a more defined role in the game, alongside the more generalized rare items.
I dont think the itemization blows overall though. It has interesting aspects to it, even if it is lacking more interesting and special stats which could define character builds (the skill stats are not nearly enough, as they are mostly just +dmg).
Getting a ton of crappy rares and then once in a while getting a good one seems exactly like what Diablo has always been.
That's true. Except now the exact same applies to uniques, in a worse sense.
Getting a ton of crappy variation of one unique until finally finding one that is subpar at best is not how I remembered Diablo.
The hierarchy of items was as followed, prior to rune words. (which is excluded for obvious reasons)
Excellent Rare > Excellent Magical > Unique > Rare > Magical
Now it's this.
Excellent Rare > Excellent Magical > Rare = Optimal-roll Unique > Magical > White > Bad Roll Unique.
That's just... really sad. It's, of course, not accurate. But it sums up the idea well enough.
Keep in mind that powerful unique items were not really introduced into D2 until LoD released.
I share the feeling.
Other thing that greatly annoys me is the randomization of the items. For example i'm running around with a crossbow that has INT on it just because it has a high DPS. Same goes for armor... only DEX matters. Anything else is whatever.
I have found "good" ~750 dps weapons with ridiculous stats like int and str mixed, but i have yet to find a truly good item. Can't say that i'm getting my hopes up on ever finding one.
