You can't skip ahead in singleplayer, no - but why would you want to? None of the dungeons are bad or unfun, unlike the "icepick to the eye" level agony that was the maggot lair, kurast sewers, and flayer dungeon. My point was that D2 quests were split fairly evenly between the ones that you had to do to get your +stats or whatever, and the ones that you would go out of your way to skip or avoid if possible. Every quest in D3 is just an enjoyable step in the journey, and you'd never want to cherry pick doing certain quests over others. It remains cohesive.

I would certainly like to skip some d3 dungeons. I didn't like the spider dungeon as an example.

We all want D3 to succeed, but it's just stupid to sugarcoat d3 so much. Not every quest in d3 is 'just an enjoyable step in the journey'. Certainly not for all players.

I think the reason for this is inherent on their questing system where you can start a new game and run the previously completed quest with grouping. Adding a permanent reward will make these quests more unappealing as obviously these rewards can't be given again once completed.

Well you have to complete it at least once in a difficulty as that is part of the main storyline and what the game is about.

But if you just want to grind or farm then you don't need to go there obviously... I'm not sure what's the problem here? Unless you are comparing this to WoW again...

No idea where the WoW comparison comes from... like most WoW comparisons, it is non-apt, lol. When you complete a quest in WoW, you get an item, or usually in fact a choice of items, which you don't in D3.

I look at the "quests" in D3 as signposts to keep you moving through the game, just like the quests in D2, really. You get the town portal for finding Leoric's crown, you help out the three companions and the two crafters to get access to their services, but mostly the "quests" are just keeping you moving along the plotline, which seems fine to me and very diablo-like... it is an ARPG after all The rewards come from boss and champion kills, and resplendant chests and so on.
