Latency vs lag (on US servers)

My usual latency, thus far, has been from 200 to 360. No matter when end of this spectrum I seem to be on, I still get lag and jerkiness. When I preform actions and when I use a beam spell are when it's most noticeable, but even just running around sometimes causes it (and I won't even get into the elastic snap-backs). My system, while a couple of years old, is more than enough to handle a Blizzard game.

I guess I am just wondering about others' experience (mostly on the US servers, but all comments are welcome). Thanks.

I play on the EU servers but for me too the latency yesterday was similar to yours (on a 20/1 ADSL line which should easily give me under 100 latencies). I also have a couple of years old system with HD5770 1GB, 4 GB RAM and dual-core E6700 @ 3,1 GHz but I think it should be enough for this game. Still I get noticeable lag at times. I tried lowering the video settings and it helped a bit but I still get the lag. I'm starting to think it might be due to the latency.

I guess I just assumed that a latency of 200 would be acceptable, seems not.

Re: Latency vs lag (on US servers)

I'm usually around 200-400ms latency (US servers), but have not actually seen much lag at all - it's been very smooth. In most games, latency that high would not make for a good experience, but it has not really affected me much at all.

Maybe try turning the graphics down, just to try that for a few minutes?

if you have a higher end amd card, try switching to full-screen windowed. You would think unrelated, but it smoothed things out a bit for me. I'm typically over 200ms and notice little if any lag.

Re: Latency vs lag (on US servers)

Thanks for both suggestions, I will give them a try. I'm running a quad-core 955 with 4 GB RAM and a GeForce GTX 460, again, not cutting edge, but I would assume enough. I just hope that they have every intention of improving performance, and not just stopping once they get everyone in the door.
