Level 35 Monk Cruising Through NM - Questions?

So I've tried out a lot of things, especially after reading all the theory crafting. Anyone got any questions so far about what's doing good and what isn't?

I see a lot of people going Fists of Thunder / Thunderclap with Crippling Wave / Mangle as their primary secondary. I can tell you right now that when you get access to Way of the Hundred Fists / Hands of Lightning that is going to be your BIGGEST single target DPS burst.. period. I haven't found anything to top it yet in any skill / rune combination.

If FoT is 1 and WotHF is 2 then your single target DPS rotation is: 1 2 1 1 2 1 and so on. If you stop to use any other skill for a single target you're actually going to lose DPS.

You can get that combo fairly early. Here is my current build.

It allows for massive aoe damage, sustain through probably the best spirit dump in EP comboed with Transcendence. SSS is used for mitigating damage more than anything with DS being a get out a jail free card.

Your complete lack of defensive skills is astounding to me. I'm 39 and I'm using both Blinding Flash (or whatever the name is), runed for a second flash 6 seconds later, and Breath of Heaven. I use Crippling Wave, Lashing Tail Kick runed to stun, and conviction with overawe.

I mean if you're doing alright then great, but I cannot see how that build does not die regularly to Nightmare champion packs.

Hm? All three passives are entirely defensive. It gives me nearly 40% dodge and 44% damage reduction. Then you can easily heal up whatever health you need with transcendence. I'm dual wielding swords.

The beautiful thing is dual wielding swords and using the guardians path gives me even more dodge AND I can stack dex on both swords which not only gives me more dodge and damage but with seize the initiative it gives me a ****load of armor too.

    Everything synergizes with everything else.

Your complete dependence on defensive skills is astounding to me.

I was giving honest feedback based on my nightmare experiences. Just because it is the internet it doesn't mean you have to go out of your way to be a dick for no reason.

How is Sweeping Wind? Looks really nice as a cast it and forget it, as long as you're in constant combat.

I'm sorry, I just have to comment on this...

Beingmused, you stated "Your complete lack of defensive skills is astounding to me". But when Ohgodagain replies "Your complete dependence on defensive skills is astounding to me," he is being a dick?.

Where is the logic in that?

OP: I like how you're using offensive abilities for defensive purposes. I was using Tempest Rush as my get out of jail card, but I think I'll try out Dashing strike, as it will actually do some damage while still server its purpose.

I'm finding that the most dangerous situation I've run into is a pack of Jailers mixed with the guys who spawn those frozen balls that completely disable you. I saw a buddy die to this and I nearly died at the same time. I have been keeping Serenity on my action bar just for this reason, though I'm not even sure if you can use it while disabled.

How are you dealing with that combo?

Tone doesn't always carry well in text, but when I read Ohgodagain's reply, it came across as insulting. The two main reasons I'm reading it this way are the negative connotations on the word "dependence" and the fact that he's turning Beingmused's original statement around and throwing it back at him. The combination of these two things make what Ohgodagain said sound snarky and insulting, while what Beingmused said came across as curious and genuinely astounded.

It's nice but as of right now anyway I can't figure out what I'd remove to use it. I doubt a full "the best defense is a good offense" build will work in inferno so maybe when the build changes there will be room for something like sweeping wind but right now there's just no room for it.

It's hard for sure. I ran into a similar except with molten and on top of that they were the act 2 whirling diverishes so I couldn't even really cc them.

Basically if I come across a boss pack like that I use my offense abilites as a way to heal me and I kite then try to dashing strike in on a boss monster trailing behind the pack to get some free hits. Potions are a good friend too. SSS is really good for oh **** situations because of the few seconds of invulnerability it grants you.

I don't think I sounded that insulting. I was trying to be a bit snarky, though!
