I died but my merc didn't

Saw I was dying and exited the game. Came back in to see my corpse, and to my surprise my merc was still alive! Saved some money.
I guess this can happen if you exit quickly at death ?

That's great! Did you lose experience points? I'm not exactly when it happens. This reminds me of something similar, I remember from a long time ago, when I was levelling to reach level 99. I also quit the game, after rejoining there was no corpse, but I lost experience at level 97... Everybody said I died. Strange things can happen if you quit the game when dying.

Couldn't tell if I lost exp but I probably did. I think each part : corpse generation, maybe losing exp and gold, merc dying are separate events and leaving the game interrupts this process.

Yeah, I believe you are right. Usually the merc dies after you die. Probably, this process will be interrupted if you quit the game.
