This is what I'm using at 28 (hardcore).
It might be working because I have over-leveled the content a little and because it is normal difficulty, but it is definitely working.
I run toward the pack and when I get their attention I Spirit Walk. Once I get in the middle, I Soul Harvest, Grasp, Acid Cloud, and run back to range. I Poison Dart any that are still alive and coming for me. If none are coming me, I Dart the survivors or Acid Cloud them if there are more than 3 or so. If it looks like they will overwhelm my Dart, I Grasp, retreat, Acid Cloud and go back to Darting.
I used one potion on Belial out of an abundance of caution and I don't remember the last time I used a potion other than that.
I'm level 31 and I just finished Normal.
My gear isn't that great. I had a really hard time finding good INT/VIT gear. All of the decent stuff I found was DEX.
440 INT
194 VIT // 2.3k HP
544 DPS
LMB - Poison Dart (Splinter)
RMB - Firebomb (Roll the Bones)
1 - Spirit Walk (Jaunt)
2 - Soul Harvest (Siphon)
3 - Grasp of the Dead (Unbreakable Grasp)
4 - Gargantuan (Restless Giant)
P1 - Jungle Fortitude
P2 - Gruesome Feast
P3 - Pierce the Veil
Strategy - Basic WD strategy so far. Grasp a mob then let Gargantuan or my Templar tank it. Firebombs for mobs and Poison Dart for single-target DPS. I breezed through normal surprisingly quickly but I can't help but feel that my DPS and HP are lower than they should be. I know that I'll need a lot more VIT/HP if I want to beat the higher difficulties.
I am going to try to solo my way through the game.
544 DPS on lvl 31? Wtf... i have around 240 dps and i just finished normal (lvl 34) ...
Only 2300 hp, though.
I did some Normal Azmodan runs last night to get to 35 and hopefully find better items before nightmare.
Bumped my HP up to 2.6k and DPS to 574.69. I found an amulet that bumps my HP up to 3.2k but I lose 50 INT if I wear it. For gear should I opt for VIT over INT? I've been trying to use gear that has both but they are hard to find in lower difficulties. I know that mobs will end up 1-2 shotting me so I'm worried about my VIT. :/
On the other hand, I was talking to NoLife Quiks (one of the people that beat Inferno this weekend) and he said after Act 2 Inferno the mobs will one shot you regardless of your VIT so you might as well get as much INT as you can.
LVL: 58
DMG: 5333 (HP is 22,444 which might be a little high- have been trying to focus on splitting between VIT and INT)
ACT: Hell mode beginning of Act 3
SKILLS: (With a 4 man group)
Prim- Dart (Spined)
Sec- Corpse Spiders (Mana regen)
1- Big Bad Voodoo (Damage)
2- Soul Harvest (Life Leech)
3- Bats (Dire)
4- Spirit Walk (Life Regen)
Passives: Gruesome Feast, Pierce the Veil, Spirit Vessel
Game play
Playing with 4 people (with a monk who specifically heals and a barbarian) I can go more damage and less CC, so instead of Grasp I take corpse spiders for the regen. On the pull I cast direbats and darts, when I need bats again I spam 3-4 corpse spiders (which hit surprisingly hard). When I don't see any danger, I run into melee to get soul harvest stacks/or try to gain some health back.
I've been alternating high damage spells around, like zombie bears and locusts but I have found that I just really like direbats since they have a huge range and piercing damage.

Level 36
Strength: 254
Dexterity: 88
Intelligence: 621
Vitality: 219
Armor: 914
Damage: 697.29
Life: 2589
Mana: 500
LC: Firebomb/Flashfire
RC: Plague of Toads/Rain of Toads
1: Wall of Zombies/Unrelenting Grip
2: Zombie Charger/Zombie Wave
3: Zombie Dogs/Lifelink
4: Gargantuan/Restless Giant
Zombie Handler
Jungle Ritual
Blood Ritual
I think I'll probably change blood ritual and zombie chargers. I'm just playing around with them at the moment, bu this build obviously doesn't like to be close to the opponent. I do like the life regain on blood ritual though.
lvl 60
DPS
8k (no buffs)
14k (SH @ 5 stacks)
20k+ (SH & GF @ 5 stacks)
I just finished hell mostly in group with rl barb buddy or in random grps (was 60 before that and I would highly recommend this, cause @60 you get the stacking Magic Find buff which will push your first loot (firstkills seem to give always 2 yellows and better with NV 75% MF buff). Doing my first steps Inferno (rly sucking @ each champion pack and even normal mobs are making problems^^). I'm actually waiting for rl buddies to hit 60 to go as group inferno, bt i tried a bit solo and failed bad^^.
In Hell I'm running this build atm:
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#WgdZUk!YVc!cbYacb
but I'm planning to switch WoZ to Haunt with heal rune, but thats another story.
The build is designed for 1h+mojo, cause it relies on high attack speed and dps (GotD, Phantasm & WoZ hit more often with high attackspeed. and PoT works smother cause with high attack speed your cast follow mobmovement better). It can still be used with a 2h weapon if you don't have any better 1h+mojo combo in end dps. Another point for ceremonial knife + mojo is manareg. Even using the manaless frogs as mainnuke (up to 20k+ crits @ full stacked buffs), you can use the manareg to spam Phantasm to cover more area or spam it while kiting. WoZ works very good with Unbreakable Grasp (even on open field). You can stack the 3 AOE DOTs and add PoT to that wich results in massive dps. Trying to keep SH on 5 stacks and picking Health Globes immediately as they spawn (with enough +radius from gear I just have to make a lil step to pick em up. staying still won't pick em up) cause you want the +10% int/globe ASAP.
Spirit Walk (+heal rune) and Spirit Vessel makes you really hard to kill, not invincible but with the right hit & run / kite tactic you'll be the last man standing when the group wipes many times.
And now I'm asking me if I can give up WoZ for Haunt (with +heal rune). Don't know how it will work out, cause I like WoZ in the build atm really much =) but I'll test it the next days I guess..
edit: I have over 30k HP and even some +"resistance against all dmg types" gear (dunno how it is called in EN, have ger client). End of Hell it fells ok most of the times, but in Inferno it feels like 1 hit most of the times (surviving 2 hits only due to passive most of the times, but smetimes i survie 1-3 hits without it. But any non normal mob will rape me in an blink of an eye atm in Inferno..^^
