So guys, i'll be starting tonight with a WD .. just wanted to know what your impressions are... i have the feeling that it's underpowered ? Am i wrong ?
Underpowered compared to what? I've only gotten my normal and hardcore WDs to 10 but there were no issues and both beat Skeleton King like a tied up goat.
I find Soul Harvest + Dire Bats to be an incredibly powerful form of burst damage. It can clear out mobs of enemies from across the screen.
So much better than beta is my reaction. A lot better. To the point where it almost felt overpowered. The runes change everything. The poison dart is awful until you get the 1st rune and then it's ridiculously good.
Even the dogs seem better. And then especially the bats. Close-range high aoe damage. I'm liking witch doctor a lot. Lost my lvl 12 HC tonight but no worries will start another tomorrow.
Watching a stream of a level 46 WD now, he rarely hits for over 1k and that is only on crits. Compare this to the level 37 Barb I was watching earlier and he was consistently hitting for 2.5k-3k.
Maybe it is just the player's build, but the damage of the WD looks lacking from what I have seen. I am still going to play it because it looks the most fun to me, and I am sure if you select the right skills that damage will not be an issue.
I am only level 23 but here is my impression on the witch doctor so far.
If you like big flashy numbers the witch doctor is not the class for you. We do very decent damage, but it requires some finess. Once we get all our dots rolling on the enemy that drop pretty quick. I can clear a large number of mobs in decent time.
TBH I wish they would remove soul harvest and balance our skills accordingly... I feel incredibly powerful when I have a 5 stack soul harvest going, and pretty pathetic when I dont. The problem I am running into with soul harvest is I get WRECKED when I run in to get stacks due to its low range, and this is just in act 2.

Splinter dart
Locust swarm
Hex
Soul Harvest with the heal rune
Grasp o fthe dead (groping Eels)
Gargantuan with humungoid
Passives are jungle fortitude and grusome feast
I dont like the Soul Harvest skill either. It seems like something you have to pick if you want to do good damage. I would like to see them change it to a group buff ability.
I dont like being forced into picking a skill for a buff that only effects you as a player. If it was a buff that could effect your entire group if they were within a certain range when you used it, great, but as it is right now I feel it is too selfish for a co-op designed game. Could do the same thing, but only buff the classes primary attribute (Str for Barb, Dex for DH and Monk, and Int for WD and Wiz).
Allies could gain buff if they were withing 12yds of the player when the skill was used. Then it would be a better skill, since it could benefit then entire group's damage instead of just the WD. Make the effect worse for all I care, but make it able to effect all members of the group.
At level 34, I find SH + Dire Bats the must-have skills so far. Sacrifice is nice, and the Gargantuan is a superb tank. Zombie Charger's Undeath was also very good during normal. I cannot say whether it is weak or strong compared to other classes, but so far I have found the game pretty easy, except for a few battles where health globes don't drop enough and I have to run around waiting for the potion cooldown to wear off.
