    Question Installer stuck at 1%

Alright, I've been following the pre-install instructions. Uninstalled the D3 Beta, downloaded the Blizzard downloader, waited while the installer downloaded the 7.60GBs of install files onto my local hard drive. That completed, the installer ran and I said "Install Now", "Yes I agree" and now it's on the normal download / update client, and it's stuck on "Installing" with the progress bar at 1%.

I've seen several people say to just wait (waiting for 1+ hour as of now, no change), and I haven't seen any specific error codes. The installer is running as administrator (Launched by the downloader) and there's a "Diablo III.temp" folder in my program files folder that the installer appears to have created. I did try canceling the installer, deleting that folder, and re-running the installer, but again, I'm still having the same issue.

In addition, installer also doesn't have any of the "Connection Information" "Downloader Preferences" menu options enabled...

    Anybody have any ideas?

What operating system do you have? What are your other specs?

    Windows 7 x64 SP1
    Core i7-2600K CPU
    8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT graphics card.
    1.5 TB WD hard drive

Specs shouldn't theoretically be a problem, I was in the D3 Beta and everything worked fine including downloads / updates / patches which is why it feels so weird that the installer is acting up on the full game.

    Still stuck?

Are there any .prt files in the game folder where it was downloaded?

You could also try running the installer in XP mode.

    Restart the computer. Try again.

How long did you wait? some people have reported waiting for 10 minutes after which it jumped to 10%.

He says he has waited 1 hour +.

Maybe check with microsoft.com and make sure your operating system is up to date, too. Perhaps you're missing a .net update or some other important update D3 relies on.

    Re: Installer stuck at 1%

I think I actually might know what it is now Dacar. I did do what you said, checked for .prt files (none), restarted, ran the installer again (though didn't try XP mode). Let it run, went to lunch, came back, got a error with a bunch of DownloadURL failed.

    ERROR: DownloadURL failed http://attdist.blizzard.com/d3-pod-r...enUS_Audio.mpq
    ERROR: DownloadURL failed...
    ... and so on ...

Anyways, I'm unable to ping attdist.blizzard.com, and I actually had a semi similar problem a while back when trying to download one of the more recent SC2 patches. My guess is blizzard uses some kind of caching service to mirror the actual patches and that for some reason the server I'm supposed to be accessing isn't available from my physical location at home.

Le sigh. Time to call AT&T tech support...

Did you perhaps restart the router?

    Re: Installer stuck at 1%

    Core Problem
Starcraft II and now Diablo III is unable to connect to attdist.blizzard.com/* to download required patch and install files.

    TL;DR Version:
After extensive time on the phone / chat with both blizzard and AT&T tech support making sure that nothing is wrong on my end, we've determined the problem lies somewhere between the content distribution system server and my home modem. What that problem is exactly, I don't know, but it is preventing me from installing and patching my blizzard games, both Starcraft II and Diablo III. I'm looking for some way for the problem to be fixed, or for some / any kind of work around that will allow me to install and patch my games.

    Additional Detail:

    Diablo III Installer error:

Example (Diablo III installer): ERROR: DownloadURL failed http://attdist.blizzard.com/d3-pod-r...enUS_Audio.mpq

The same issue has occured, and is still ongoing, with Starcraft II when we attempted to patch the game. In the end, we downloaded the patch file offsite, and installed them on our machines locally.

Some searching reveals that this is not a *new* problem:

    My Machine:
    Windows 7 x64 SP1
    Core i7-2600K CPU
    8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT graphics card.
    1.5 TB WD hard drive

    General things that I've tried:

    • Restarted my computer.
    • Restarted the router.
    • ipconfig /release
    • ipconfig /renew
    • ipconfig /flushdns
    • Turned off the firewall.
    • Turned on the firewall
    • I have no anti-virus software on my computer
    • Restarted, unplugged power, waited, started back up.
    • Restarted in safe mode.
    • Attempted to change the DNS from automatically resolved to both OpenDNS and GoogleDNS.
    • Plugged directly into the AT&T router (went through all of the above steps again)
    • Never used wireless for the update / install process
    • Unplugged everything except my machine
    • Updated all windows patches
    • Roommate filed a ticket with blizzard on the SC2 patch issue: https://us.battle.net/support/en/ticket/thread/24957366
    • I'm unable to ping attdist.blizzard.com (request times out, resolves to attdist.blizzard.com.att-idns.net [12.120.62.208])
    • I'm unable to tracert attdist.blizzard.com
    • I AM able to ping / tracert to us.logon.battle.net
    • I have no problems with "Normal" internet connectivity that I've noticed over the past month.

    Starcraft II Specifics attempted (Previously)

    • SC2 Repair Tool
    • Safe mode
    • Memory check
    • Uninstall / reinstall

Specific to the Diablo III installer:

    • Uninstalled the Diablo III Beta via Add / Remove programs. Folder no longer exists in program files.
    • Downloaded and ran the blizzard downloader, it finished, and ran the installer.
    • Installer froze at 1% 30+ minutes.
    • Deleted the Diablo III.temp folder
    • Restarted the installer
    • Ran the down loader again, made sure it validated the installer
    • Made sure the installer ran in administrator mode
    • Deleted a wierdly name Diablo III.temp folder.
    • Checked to make sure there were no .prt files in the install folder that was downloaded
    • Secondary Login is Enabled
    • Deleted ProgramData\Battle.net folder after stopping Agent.exe
    • Same Issue

Result of contacting AT&T tech support:

    • AT&T asked basic questions, bumped up to level 2 support.
    • Noticed router had 10.0.0.1 subnet range enabled.
    • Reverted to normal subnet range

      • Same issue

    • Put the computer into the DMZ

      • Same issue

    • AT&T support attempted to ping / tracert FROM THE ROUTER ITSELF to attdist.blizzard.com

      • Same issue
      • Seems to imply that the problem lies somewhere between the router and the server hosting the content.

    • Attempted to get in contact with some other programming / networking group or higher level tech support person... no luck.
    • Went home (was remoted in before)
      • Reset to default 192.168.* subnet
      • Tested again. Same issue.
      • Put machine in DMZ. Same issue.

    Additional Research:

    • It appears Blizzard uses http://www.akamai.com/ for content distribution
    • I've seen several different CDN's such as edgesuite.net / att-idns.net
    • Problem appears to be somewhere in the network between home router and the edge / cache / CDN server.

I've filed a ticket with blizzard tech support, but I doubt it'll help resolve the issue.
