let me put it this way. the CG cinematics were no doubt a marvel of artistic design, blizzard has once again made the prettiest cinematics in the game business. But all that tech and artistic talent has gone to waste, the cinemtaics have luck luster voice acting, terrible writing and a plot that was so rudimentary and unoriginal, everyone already knows what is going to happen.
a little more on the lines used in the cutscenes. it is almost like listening to a priest, I can basically sum up all the dialog I have heard from D3 as something relating to: "Evil", "the forces of DARKNESS", "the light!" "Justice". that is all do, repeating annoying lines with out any soul! Its almost like tea partier constantly saying "FREEDOM" with out even knowing what freedom means or what it has to do with the context of what is being said.
Excuse me, but how lines delivered in D1 and D2 were in any way better? Don't you remember that every time Diablo or his brothers opened their mouths we would get some generic slogans about darkness and terror consuming everything? They were in no way more "deep" from what I could hear in D3 cinematics or from SC2 Kerrigan's lines. Pretty much same for Angels. Tyrael in D2 sounded like Optimus Prime and he sounds similar in D3. I have a feeling it is simply nostalgia kicking in.

I agree that closing cinematic looks a bit too "bright" considering what we remember from D1 and D2. Perhaps something more ominous would be more fitting. I do not however follow the rule that "dark" and "gritty" equals good. It is a matter of perspective and personal opinion but I like balanced stories. Too much of sugar or too much of "emo" makes an overkill. I can give you however that probably lots of people are expecting Diablo to be as dark as possible and I can uderstand those tastes. Yet I think the biggest success of this series comes from gameplay rather than storyline and by making the story a bit more "epic" Blizzard is just trying to fit it more towards general population.

Anyway, I cant judge the story as of now. Need to actually play the game, the cinematics alone are not enough.
