I was really sad to hear thatVermin, the passive that increases the damage of Corpse Spiders, Frogs, and Bats, was removed. When I first saw the WD I imagined playing with tons of critters (NOT summons) on the screen at once. With Vermin gone, is it still viable to have a purely or mostly physical realm build?
I was thinking something similar to http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#bSZkac!ebc!acYYbZ
(I really just threw this build together, I'm at work and don't have the time to properly think one out right now)
My question still stands however: Are physical builds still viable with the removal of Vermin? With theFetish Syncophants I would say yes, but I would like to hear your thoughts on the matter.
Petless builds that rely on 'Physical Realm' spells will be fine - you don't even need to rely on Fetish Sycophants for it to be viable.
The issue with your build is that you've crammed it with too many Physical-realm spells. Realistically, you probably only need no more than three dedicated offensive skills, and the rest should be a mix of defence/utility skills.
This is very rough, but maybe something like this?

Vampire Bats as your primary AoE attack, with Grasp of the Dead to supplement that and provide much-needed area slowing.
Poison Dart is your main way of dealing with single targets....yeah, it's not as good as something like Spirit Barrage, but it's still pretty decent, even with its weaknesses. In optimal circumstances (no enemies blocking you and your target), Poison Dart is almost just as good.
Toad of Hugeness wouldn't be my first pick, but I took it to fit into your theme of summoning critters - it's there to provide some 'light' CC and a bit of extra damage, even though something like Hex or even Horrify is possibly better :P.
Good point, I guess I do have too many attack spells on that build. Like I said it was really thrown together, but I never thought of using Poison Dart as a main single target attack. I'll have to see in practice if it works well enough. In the beta, I found that Leaping Spiders was amazing, even when you were the proper level compared to mobs around you. After throwing out 3 or 4 jars you were getting amazing damage single target. So maybe that is also an option, and will provide a kind of AoE for larger packs. Doesn't allow for taking out a priority target very well, but the massive AoE damage from all the skills might handle that anyway.
Using the toad as CC is a great idea, and possibly one that I'll incorporate into my play, thanks for the suggestion =)
