I am glad this forum finally opened up for D3. I have been a fan of Diablo since the first game and never played it as a proper multiplayer game. The reason why (for me) is that I just dont get along with other peoples' playstyles. As much as I like the idea of the traditional heroes' party vs. the evil in the world (think classic D&D), I never managed to find people that would not drive me crazy after a few minutes of play. So, I would like to know from other peeps around here, what makes you a single-player guy (or girl) and what is it about single-player that you prefer over MP.
Most people I have 'tried' to play with are just too fast, don't wait for each other, dont' ever chat, don't take in the lore / world / graphics etc. I always clear out all the levels, take ages to sort my inventory - all in all, a playthrough of D3 probably takes me twice as much time as a normal person. So that's my reason, what's yours ?
H.
When I was playing in battle.net I often found myself making untwinked chars to see if I could get the through the game. I also found it annoying how in b.net it's nothing but rushes and power leveling.
I'm not much of a peolpe person anyway.

I was part of a small clan on bnet once. Well, tcp/ip is difficult to set up and you never know if people are using legit gear or are just haxxx. On bnet, there's the duping system.
The fact is: diablo is my solo thing - I do whatever I want, whenever I want. I don't mind to help someone that can't complete one quest, I just don't like to play diablo with other people.
I have other hobbies that involve other people (like RPG and music) and sometimes the setting up/discussion/deliberation takes more time than the actual hobby.
Also, I have a great need of personal space - as in "I'm the only visible living being in the room" - just to spend some time alone and think about stuff. One of the things I do on my time alone is play diablo.
On specific diablo2 matters: Go mule, SPF, etc. and the previous reasons.
I just enjoy it more playing on my own, for similar reasons to you, but also the duping etc,

I will enjoy playing with friends, but I also enjoy playing solo just so I can go at my own pace and do what I want to do.
I'm planning to solo normal first, because people tend to rush through the dialogues and stuff.
Yup, I'll be shutting myself off from the forums until I've done Normal... Although the case the normal edition comes in has a big spoiler on it xD

Can't abide cheating of any sort... and by cheating I mean playing with a different set of rules than I do when they play with me. As soon as you get two people in a game like this, there will be cheating. Playing solo, I can be sure that the players are all playing by my rules. Note, I don't consider it cheating for you to play by your rules... just don't play with me. Also, being a teacher, I have my fill of other people in my real life... I don't play games to socialize.
