Can I make a Token of Absolution in classic?
I haven't seen any essences drop yet so I don't know what to think.
Are the 3 respecs given by Akara the only ones you get in classic?

From your description I can deduce they are a part of the ingredients you need for an item(Token of Absolution) which allows a respec.
But I can tell you I had not heard of these until today. From the title I thought you meant the +1 potions from Diablo 1.
To give direct answers to your questions :
No, these do not drop in classic at the moment as far as I know.
Yes, the 3 respecs you get from Akara are the only ones you get. Those 3 respecs where added in the last patch(or the one before). Before that time there where no respecs possible in classic.
Classic, where a runeword is a weapon missing the s in the middle.
even if they would drop, you still could not make a token, since baals essence would be missing...
