I've been a long time member here (6~ years ago) during Diablo 2, but I totally lost the login and pw. Anyways, I recently played the Beta and I was so disappointed, it compelled me to make a post here.
Graphics: Great! Never bought into the color controversy.
Visual effects: Great!
1. Runes: Not impressed at all. As you know, they completely botched the previous rune system from a dynamic combo one to a lazy *** linear one. As you know, originally you could affix runes to spells which gave you its themed effects (multishot, piercing, poison, etc). This was truly innovative that called for dynamic gameplay and strategic depth.
Now they're not even 'runes' but an automatic passive upgrade fixed to each spells. It was so obvious they took the lazy road to meet company deadlines and release date. I was terribly disappointed about this when played the new Beta.
2. Oversimplification: It was so damn SIMPLE to play too! I could have 0 armor, picked up whatever item, and still could kill any monsters. There were no stats to mull over as everything was automatic. Never in a game I felt getting a level up meant so little.
3. Commercialized storyline: Are we really killing Diablo for the third time? Why would you be scared of the damn demon who keeps getting his *** kicked? And I feel like they're just lazily chocking up nostalgia. It was already sweet to revisit good old Tristram in Diablo II, now again for third time? Killing Leoric again- does anyone stay dead anymore?
As for bosses, we killed all the prime evils. What's so scary about the remaining two lesser evils and we've already killed other two of the same rank? I wish they came up with a greater threat that got the player excited. What's wrong with a new concept of antagonist that can threaten Diablo himself and you have to defeat it?
Yes, I will play Diablo 3 and probably will enjoy it to a degree. But I'm really let down about above things. I played Diablo 1 as a kid and 2 during college. This damn Rune system seems way too simplified.
Am I the only one?
