    Marathon Preparedness

    Afternoon!

I just want to say that I've been reading these forums forever but never actually posted. Great atmosphere. Love it here. Here's a little background story of myself and why I'm here...

I've been playing Diablo since number 1. I love these games and everything about them. I've been waiting for D3 to release literally after LOD and I vividly remember speaking to my bros about how D3 would end up being... Good times. Lore is amazing.

Last year around this time my girlfriend and I decided to start saving for an amazing vacation out of country. (We live in Oregon GO DUCKS) we saved and saved.... And saved thousands of dollars. I had two weeks of paid vacation time ready to use starting today actually... We would of left for Italy today. Well in February she decided to leave me to go whore herself out. So I retaliated by buying a sick new car, amongst other manly things. Well... I still have my vacation time and it's starting Monday... Which means pure D3 bliss.

After working two jobs and having to work 13-16 hour shifts during the week I finally get to relax and get time to myself, and... I want to make it good. I'm shooting for a 72 hour marathon session. Straight play. I worked two jobs to strictly save for our Italy trip and obviously that's not happening. So hell yeah time to game it up. I need some ideas on food, comfort and other supplies needed for the marathon. I need everyone's input and feel free to post what you are doing to keep awake and comfortable during your marathon.

hi, i plan on doing a marathon to, but not all in one go. i plan on doing 16 hour play throughs till i hit 60 but no means rushing there.

for food i know its best to eat well. so ill be eating alot of salads, fruit , sprouts , nuts and seeds. this will keep me feeling light and energized and keep me from feeling foggy , sleepy like i would normally feel if i ate sodas, candys , chips , and meat. this will in return keep me playing longer in comfort and keep me sharp so i make the right decisions in game.

ill also be exercising for at least 30 mins a day to also give me more energy and to loosen my body because sitting for 16 hours isnt what are bodies were designed for.

along with this i plan on taking a 5 - 10 min break every 3 hours to stretch my body as well as my wrist and hands, get some fresh air and think about what ill be doing next when i get back into the game.

ill also be deleting old programs from computer , defraging it and getting all my mouse settings ready and getting my computer to be at its best when launch hits. i also wrote down what settings im changing when i get in game and what key binds ill be using also.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K21AF...2&feature=plcp

    i also used the skill calculators to come up with the skills ill be using when i hit levels 10, 20 , 30 , 40 , 50 and 60. i also planned out what gear ill be crafting for when i hit lvls 20 , 30 , 40 , 50 , and 60.

my goal by following my plan is to have plan i can follow so i can see as much content as possible while leveling up quickly, be at my best physically and mentally so i'm able to play long hours while not jeopardizing my health, pace my self so in the long run i can get more gaming in and not burn my self out, and keep the game fresh and interesting.

i'm also a weed smoker so i have a few rules ill be following. smoke at charcter creation , then take a hit before any boss fights and inbetween acts. this will help me enjoy the game so much more.

i hope i gave you some idea on some of the things you can do to prepare. also sorry to hear about your gf, atleast you can game as long as you want with out being nagged at. grats on your new car, and if you run out of idea on how to spend that money p.m. me. lol just jking

Excellent post icantwaitfordiablo. Solid ideas. I'm thinking I will need to reverse my computer desk and monitor. Right now the monitor is facing my window and if I reverse it I can keep my window open during the day.. Due to the great weather we are currently having. I will also have a balance between junkfood and healthy food. Junkfood being snacks mainly.

Water will be plentiful next to me. I have a five gallon drum dispenser just for water lol. BUT I will absolutely need stimulants such as monster, mountain Dew, and possibly 5 hour energy shots. And definitely coffee during the mornings.

My project this weekend is to engineer and amazing computer chair out of my beaten up leather one....

Ordered my mini fridge, should be here by friday.

Inside of it will be 2 cases of beer, 2 cases of redbull, various munchies and smelling salts.

Marathons are cool and all, but after doing one for the open Beta, I realized they actually kind of suck... You miss things and don't play as well when you're tired. By all means throw a lot of play time into things, but don't be afraid to stop playing here and there. Unlike the Open Beta, the game will still be there when you get back!

call Guiness, the record is set at 55 hours of straight gaming. I've done around 48 once, and that was pretty brutal, I can't really remember much toward the end there. I wouldn't recommend trying for 72 hours, you could literally die, people have, and when they attempted the record they had paramedics on hand.

Personally I'll be getting up bright and early on the 15th cruising on into the city, picking up my CE, installing it, making sure everything's running a treat then having a nap until the servers go live. I've taken 4 days off work (hopefully they won't roster me on at all next week but who knows) so I'll be starting off with a 28 hour marathon session, the only reason I'm doing this at all is because I really want to play a lot at the beginning but don't want to screw up my sleeping patterns so I'll be pumping all the way through to the next night.

I'm pre-cooking and baking all my food for that week so I can just chuck it in the microwave, I smoke so I'll be taking a break every hour or so to stretch my legs and get some fresh air, and then it's just lots of black coffee and low GI foods to keep me going.

Do not drink sugary beverages or "energy drinks" like redbull. They give you a temporary boost but end up causing you to crash after a few hours, making you way more sleepy than you normally would be. Drink plenty of water and juice (REAL juice, with no sugar added). Prepared, healthy meals are ideal. I'm personally going to make a ton of turkey sandwiches on whole wheat bread the day before release and eat those while playing, along with plenty of fruits and vegetables.
