    Monk vs. Barb

This post is for everyone who is either rolling a Barb or a Monk as your first character on release. I want to know why you chose that class and the pros and cons of that choice. What type of play style do you believe you will have in inferno? Who will win when a good barb meets a good monk in pvp? Which class will be better solo? better in groups? your favorite attacks? Really just anything that drew you to either respective class, let us know.

I will pick the barb. I want to be a killing machine, not really want to be someone's medic.

Kidding aside, I just like the over the top all out killing prowness of the barb.

I will be playing all 5 chars somewhat together since im gonna play hardcore so i will still have something when one dies. Probably the monk is gonna do most of the first and more daring exploration since it can "die" once every 90 seconds.

    Re: Monk vs. Barb

I'm going with the Barb. For the early levels, I really like the monk's mobility and I prefer the monk's pacing on resources. But, for me, the monk is too restrictive on resource generation. I also think some of the barb's later skills will allow the barb to be just as mobile. The difference then is whether I want a class that is dealt damage more often, but immediately reduces that damage versus a class that avoids some damage, but is appears to be much more vulnerable to the damage it takes and relies heavily on after-the-fact healing. If I were doing multiplayer I'd do monk because his mitigation can benefit other players as well, but I am more of a single player person, particularly at launch.

I've decided to go with barb after much thinking and the thing that made me conclude the decision is the fact that Barb has the biggest default HP pool, which is perfect for the 1st playthrough. You know, to learn every enemy attack and their weeknesses.

    Re: Monk vs. Barb

Im going Barb partially because thats what i played in D2 and i like the continuation from that, plus like Apocalypse says its fun smashing things in the face.

the monk does look cool and will be the second class i roll when i get around to it

Monk first. I'll play the Barb second. I know what the Barb is going to be like. He's predictable. I also want the Monk to be my main because of its versatility: to easily switch between PvE and PvP, and indeed its undoubted usefulness in Nightmare/Hell/Inferno.

And it has awesome skills. And looks cool.

They are both great, but I will run a Barb first solo.
