No, it makes no sense because it's really just softcore.

EDIT: Just put a death counter on softcore characters. Boobam!

Well, losing half your progress, isn't really enough of a penalty. Because you would still be in the same world as those that haven't died yet.

I would prefer the hardcore->softcore method because then you could be "marked" and even in softcore, you'd be ridiculed because your hardcore character died. And those still in the hardcore world wouldn't be playing with anyone that had died and been placed in the softcore world.

There's really no difference, other than to show people "hey, atleast I tried".

If you really can't tell a difference between not wanting to lose a character and not wanting to lose a character due to factors outside my control, I don't know what else to say.

I do like the new idea of your char going from HC->SC after death. The character could lose gear to prevent people from importing HC loot to the SC realm. Although getting to keep the character kind of defeats the purpose of HC. Which is why I i mentioned having 3 complete separate tiers which can't interact.

HC- lose char = Perm death.
MC - lose char = lose half. Could be an interesting mode for PVP tournies.
SC - well, we all know this one.

You have to break a few eggs to make the omelet of an exciting game mode.

What does "factors outside my control" have to do with any of this? How does a death counter not give you what you want? When the death counter is zero, you have a "character that has never died", when it is >0, you become a "character who has died."

    Re: Would anyone play Medium-Core?

What difference does it make if glorious, amazing HC loot gets pawed by SC filth? It's all the same loot right?

Edit: "Factors outside my control" means "if I get disconnected in the middle of a champion pack and die, I'll be angry that the death and loss of my character were outside of my control." How does moving a character from HC to SC differ from what you said in any way?

    Re: Would anyone play Medium-Core?

    Okay then.

Assuming we're still talking about the HC death -> convert to SC character:

Wiping gear: Why? What purpose does that serve? HC doesn't have access to any different gear than SC as far as I know, and you can't give the HC gear to another HC toon (hehe, toons), so what's the point of this other than more arbitrary punishment? Assuming that this is an optional mode and regular "wipe everything" HC is still available, that is.

Dying to lag/disconnect: I can't say this any more plainly than I have. My connection does lag and time-out sometimes. I have refrained from HC mostly for this reason. The options I've discussed feel like a good compromise to me.

a hardcord to softcore on death system would constantly remove items from the "hardcore" group of players. like i said i am not really for it myself but i am positive many people would use it. actually its my opinion that everyone would use it. start as hc and if you die you either continue in the softcore world and remake another HC
