Turning your character from hardcore to softcore on death, kills purpose of "hardcore". Besides it does not have any sense. If hc char would turn to sc then why don't just play on sc ? Hardcore doesn't give you any special rewards, you don't get any "uber-super-mega-powerfull items", so if you are afraid to loose it, why to bother ?
I would rather see "medicore" as: you lose character when you die, but your items you were wearing will be transefred to your new character (to stash, or whatever).
HC character changed to SC when it dies = softcore, nothing else.
that would be the best way to handle a semi hardcore mode, by allowing you to keep all items from your dead HC char. you still lose char but dont lose any of the items you worked for
Darkmere, why do you want to play Hardcore?Answer that first.
now.. if you still haven't realized it..
In hardcore when you die, you die forever. Loot is gone, except for shared stash. If you just sent a hardcore to softcore upon death, you are ultimately playing softcore because you cannot die forever, which i believe is the core aspect of hardcore. You should play softcore only if your worried about a mere death because of something you cannot control ( which shouldn't happen alot anyway). You just want this hardcore-softcore thing so u can get achievements in hardcore too? without losing ur progress? tough tittees. Thats what hardcore is all about, When you die, you die forever. You don't keep ANY progress of that character, its WIPED OUT completely. I have no way of saying that any more clearer... read this a few times darkmere and maybe you will realize the point most people are trying to make in this post. Hardcore wouldnt be Hardcore if you died and came back to life as a softcore.... you get the point.
I will not play hardcore. I don't see the appeal of the mode to be honest. ARPG are meant to take chances and get in and have fun. Hardcore, to me, just constitutes boring game play where all you do is analyze every situation and tippy toe in. It's going to be even worse once you hit Inferno.
That said, I'd consider a medium-mode in which if I die my character gets reset to level 1, but I keep all of my gear.
You've made a grand point about what you feel hardcore is to you. And that's cool, I believe you. I've played roguelikes a bit (go look it up, if you don't know. They're what hardcore mode comes from), and I do enjoy them, but I enjoy them because... oh let me underline this I enjoy them because they let me challenge myself. Lag-death isn't a challenge for me, because there's nothing I could have done to fix it. What you're arguing for is status quo, not the core of hardcore mode at all.
I would like to point out that I never said standard hardcore mode should be removed, so as far as I can tell any arguments against mine are summed up as "you should have to play the way I want to play, otherwise you're wrong and shouldn't have fun." At least Apoc seems to "get it" so I'm content with that.
The thing is, If your hardcore character dies and turns to softcore character it means it was softcore character from the start. There is nothing "medicore" in it.
Your logic makes no sense, at all. It was not a softcore character. It was a hardcore character, now it is a softcore character. They are no longer in the same world as each other. You can no longer play with your friends in that world. Do You Get It?
2nd of all, it wouldn't even have been a "hardcore character" it would have been "medium".
What Darkmere is suggesting is not insane or ridiculous, it's different. Some people have a hard time comprehending different.
Yeah, I think you summed it up. Thank you.
It would be too soft for hardcore players and too hard for softcore players.
