    Characters naming rules

    Hello,

I'm currently planning the names of my future characters .

I'd like to know, from the people that have been lucky enough to play the beta :
    • What's the maximum name length allowed (it was something like 14 or 15 characters in D2, can't remember exactly),
    • Are special characters allowed, like space or multiple underscores (D2 was limited to 1 underscore, and 0 space IIRC),
    • Any other useful info for that purpose is welcome...

    Thank you very much,
    - Frosty

Character names have to be 3 to about 14-16? characters long, no spaces, numbers or anything else besides actual letters. You won't have to worry though whether the name you fancy is already taken, as they don't have to be unique. As a matter of fact, you can name all 10 of your characters exactly the same.

I never actually tried that out, my names were only 9 characters at max. The 14-16 was more of a lucky (or unlucky) guess.

That is an extremely useful piece of information, thank you ! Still have to figure out the max length however.

I have no idea, incidentally, why they don't allow spaces I like to give my wizards Chinese names, for instance... since the Wizard's home place names are clearly Chinese (specifically, looks like Mandarin romanized with the pinyin system), and their dress and design supports that. But Chinese given names are almost always two words.

I am sure if you capitalized the two names and named your wizard something like ZhugeLiang people would figure it out . The spaces can be annoying in development.

Development in the code? a '\s' is an easy command to allow and check and implement.

Don't forget filtered words. As far as I know, the following names are restricted:

    - (Any profanity/racial slurs)
    - Religious terms such as "God" or its variants.
