Slightly OT, but what happened to tier 17 and 18? We were told 18 tiers of gear many times after they revealed the system. and 17/18 were to be the inferno only. now there are only 16 tiers and 14-16 is inferno only.
From what we saw in some previews, 17 and 18 were the aggressively crazy, "anime robot" looking stuff. So did bliz scrap those? are they saving them for expansion? or did they just remove/combine the low stuff in tiers 2-5 and move all the others down a couple of numbers?
Presumably not everything is in the beta game files or on the Blizzard site anyway? So that some details about awesome items aren't found out before release.
I asked that question in the front-page thread and never got a real answer. My guess is they just sort of disappeared. Also, apparently naked counts as a tier now? And also there is a tier 0. So if you add all those up they make for 18 tiers...
Yeah I don't really buy that. Anyway, I guess they are just gone!
how can the skill cap be higher when combat fundamentally works the same in both games? the outcome is abstracted by both games. so, unless Blizz is going to put inputs in the game so players can block or dodge without the game making that determination. D3 requires the same level of skill as D2. very little.
Seems more and more like Blizzards plan is to make their first expansion out of stuff they removed from the game. And then have a nice 1½ year vacation :P
The players combat works essentially the same, but what could improve from D2 would be what enemies do, and thus what the player has to adjust to.
What he said, monters will have more tricks up their sleeves and smarter AI. Also in D2 you don't have many defensive, mobility, and escape skills leaving you with fewer choices. In D3 you'll be expected to use all 6 skills with careful thoughts while in D2 it's more likely that players only relied on 2-3 maxed out skills.
Don't forget too that in D3 you can't rejuv pot spam or easily escape a battle with quick TP. Boss health will also reset if you managed to TP out.
