Not so excellent news. The max bid/buyout is $250.00 so you either get hit with a double fee to cash out or you trade down your godlies for a few elites then list them on RMAH.. OR you sell the godlies 3rd party.
I guess this means what they were referring to in the FAQ was selling multiple high dollar items that would exceed the 250.00 b.net balance.Originally Posted by bashiok

$250 max price on the AH is just.... stupid.
Or more likely just greedy. It forces items of greater value than $250 onto the GAH so they can then get there 15% fee when you then go to sell the gold. I think I'm going to do a lot of direct trading just to keep as much money out of their hands as possible.
Edit: More realistically it probably just limits their legal liability, somehow. Still disappointing, I mean 99% of transactions will likely be under that amount anway.

Nope. You can SET the bid for max 250$.Not so excellent news. The max bid/buyout is $250.00 so you either get hit with a double fee to cash out or you trade down your godlies for a few elites then list them on RMAH.. OR you sell the godlies 3rd party.
You can set a bid for 250$ and sell for over 250$.
Where is the problem tbh? If the ITEM is WORTH 500$, it will have bids close or over 500$.
If it DOES not worth 250$...just set a BUYOUT of 249$.
This max bid does NOT force you to sell in GAH.
And..why are you so sure that there will be items worth 250$ in short time? And since it won't be a short time...they can always change it.If items will frequently sell for +200$...they WILL change this max bid price
They did NOT said anything about the 250$ as being the BUYOUT max price. It covers both bid and buyout, which means that with bids, it can go HIGHER.
I do understand this is bad news for MOST wanna-be traders...but is good news for the actual traders.
If you can't see it...i am sorry for you.
Did you read the tweet?

Hopefully it does mean that the bid can go higher, though no higher buyout, gotta wait for clarification.
First response:
@GamerzFunk Items can sell for more than the max buyout ($250) if bids go higher than that. More info in the FAQ: http://us.battle.net/support/en/article/diablo-iii-auction-house-functionality#q17
Second response:
@GamerzFunk Apologies, my last response was in error. A bid or buyout cannot go past the cap, which we currently have set at $250.
The second response seems like it's pretty clearly saying there is a $250 cap. I'll be happy if it's not true but unless Bashiok flip-flops again I'm reading that as it's written.
Funny thing is that we, who use euros can cap it to 250€ which is 330$
