Eh, not sure. It will have much more longevity because every build is now viable, or so they make it out that way, but at the same time, I bet Jay's unique decisions will shorten it. I don't know, I just have this gut feeling its gonna happen.
As for hype, will it live up to 10 years of waiting? Hell no. Will it live up to my low expectations I have after seeing the bad tweaks they're making? Yes.
Won't be too disappointed unless they completely drop the ball with level or monster design for the later acts.
I think this is the whole point... I have been disenchanted with all the delays, changes, RMAH, etc but I can't stop watching the commercials and trailers. Hard to not be excited but I don't want to be let down!
Actually no, since it took so long for D3 to come out, 'on the horizon' is not appropriate. For D3X it should be, "I sense an expansion somewhere in the infinite stretches of time."
The real D3 killer will be Grim Dawn. Remember, only titan quest could compare to D2 and it's the same guys on Grim Dawn, and seriously, I don't need to wait till MAY 15 to tell y'all that D3 lacks compare to D2.
In the illustrious words of Haedrig the Blacksmith:
"Expect the worse and you won't be disappointed."
Trying to keep expectations low.. it's difficult. I am itching for 13 days to come!
i think it wont catch up to the expectations just after release because of a lot of bugs/balance issues. but in a month it can be really good game. question is how many people will be still there.
In the end, my only criteria for "living up to the hype" is if the game is addictive and makes me to get back to it again and again. In my opinion, that is the most famous quality of a Diablo game. Even if the game is excellent and I enjoy playing it through a few times, if I don't want to get back at it after that, I consider myself rather dissapointed. Though I have a somewhat lower bar for this compared to Diablo 2, because obviously when it came out I was much younger and more easily addicted to video games.
Well, tbh, there is not much expectations to live up to... It's not like the most other games with their "revolutionary feature of doom" that ends up being some sort of half-broken gimmick.
This game is about killing stuff in all kinds of ways and getting loot with 5 classes. It's not like they promised us to deliver a star from the sky (we still get one, though).
