Re: But.. Can it live up to the hype?

I was hyped as Hell for Diablo 2 and regularly hung out at diabloii.nets IRC channel back then.

3 years is a long ****ing time for a game to survive. They release a new Call of Duty every 9 months.

Please tell me how as I'd like to get to HC as fast as possible. A couple beta patches ago I did my best to level to 10 as fast as possible, I tried all classes and a few different playstyles (like running past mobs to quest objectives) and I really couldn't get it down to less than 70 minutes.

Re: But.. Can it live up to the hype?

I find that I don't get as hyped about a game anymore as I used to when I was younger. I think part of this is natural to maturing, where one aquires other interests and has different priorities. Another part is the explosion of quality games the last couple of years, which makes it harder for one game in particular to stand out. Having said that though, Diablo III is definitely the most highly anticipated game for me since... probably Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.

I'm planning on building my hype the week before release, by preparing both physically (getting lots of fresh air / exercise, clean up the appartment, stock up on supplies) and mentally (not playing many other games, get some good sleep, spend my freetime reading the forums, watching vids).

Sure it can, seeing as my hype for it died a little bit more with each tidbit I read on development.

I think its more that we know exactly is in a game once we get it now. Back then, before internet was as accessible, finding out about games was difficult and made us more appreciative and selective of games.

I am very surprised the beta is truly the beginning of the game as it seems very wooden, too scripted and not a very impressive first hour or more of such a huge game. Hopefully after the Skeleton King things REALLY pick up. Either way, after so many years of all this build up, can it truly meet our expectations or are they too lofty?

It blows the first hour of Diablo 2 away so going by that benchmark, I guess it should be awesome.

My expectations aren't that high anymore - although still high.
In general, I guess there will be some disappointment from the community after release.
