Hello, I post here to give tips and maybe discuss the possible keybinds you can use to play D3. If you have your ideas feel free to post them.
It is important for many people to bind skills and other important functions to somewhat "optimized" keys which stay close to your fingers, so you can react as fast as possible and sometimes make the difference between life and death.
This can be very useful for new players, so if you don't need to learn more about keybinds feel free to leave.
I yet have to test with all 6 skills slots activated. (basically you have at max. 4 skills slots in the beta)
So, here are my keybinds :
Skills : LMB RMB 1 2 3 4 (untouched)
Move : e
Potion : r
Force stand still : tab
Town portal : d
Show map : v
All of the other keys can be the starting one or any one you choose.
Another idea for a great key to use is be the spacebar, because it lays on your thumb (don't let that thumb be lazy!!).
The pinky of my left hand rests on tab, using tab to stand still so you can stop moving and cast skills with the left mouse button changes everything. Also, all the skills are easily accessible, and my index is on the e key (using the e key to move might be a bit advanced for new players though). The Potion key is really important, though it's situational, so i put it on the r key, a short move by the index is necessary. Other possible keybinds for town portal are f, t. The key forShow map can be anything really, but don't keep it too far.
I also have 2 other keys i could use which are on my mouse, but i dont have other important functions to add. You might want a show items button, but I just use the option to toggle showing items forever on/off and I almost never need to touch this key.

Here is what I'll be using:
Skills: Untouched
Move: x (thumb)
Stand still: e (index)
Potion: r (index movement)
Show map: tab (pinky)
I've changed my move to the Space key. By default, space is bound as "Close all windows", but Esc already does that well enough for my taste.
Edit:
Derp, it's actually stand still that i've bound to Space, as in don't move.

We can't bind Ctrl to anything right? Because if we could it would be great as a move key imo.
In DII, space was always bound to my Force Stand Still, because for any ranged character it was definately my most used hotkey and I found Shift awkward for it. I imagine it will be the same in DIII. I don't know if I'll be using the Move button a lot, maybe if I get used to it...

When people tell me "plz" just because it's shorter than 'please', I feel perfectly justified to answer 'No' because it's shorter than 'Yes'.
And the Lord said unto Carl: 'Come forth and receive eternal life'. But Carl came fifth and won a toaster.
@flamebeerd andsnowieken
Space for force stand still is a great alternative to what i posted.
@Urzuxo
I'm not sure why someone would rather use Ctrl as this key is far from everything.
Sorry for noobish questions, but I haven't been lucky enough (nor didn't have the time) to play the Beta.
- What is this "move" command in D3 ? Is it the same thing as left click in D2 (when not pointing on something) ?
- And why is there a "potion" key, I thought potions were replaced by orbs and couldn't be picked up ?
The "move" button makes your character run to your current cursor.
And there are still potions. They just have a cooldown and have a lesser drop rate than they did in Diablo II.

A separate "move" sounds a bit akward to me but I guess it's just an alternative to using the shift/stand still key when attacking. What is the main benefit of this approach? Only thing I can think of is to move and attack at the same time. Or is it just down to personal preference?
Personal preference, I think. For us veterans in action RPG's it might sound awkward, but for people new to the genre it's indeed just an alternative to the stand still key, to avoid running in the middle of a pack of mobs when you try to target them.
