So I understand what Hardcore mode is (die and you can't use that character anymore) but I have a question. Is there a reason (other than making a hole in your screen when you die) that I would want to play hardcore? Do I get special items that I can only get in hardcore or something else that is equally epic that will make me want to run the risk of loosing hours/days/weeks worth of work?
Appreciate all responses and opinions.
nothing different besides rewards for banner
Hardcore has always had it's loyal crowd. Usually you build your character differently, lots and lots of hitpoints. The community often plays better together, the penalty of dying makes players work together and not run of to reach the boss faster for example. So you get more organized progression, and those fights where you almost die... Well those are the fights people really like. Not many games make your heart pound and palms sweaty.
Getting rich on Hardcore with a stash of good items, is also a gratifying feeling.
There is lot less (about none) noobs in hardcore realms after [diff-breaking-point] level
Its really good way to play if u no so every player is good one for sure
Its bragging rights for the most part. It does feel pretty good when you hit certain milestone levels and think to yourself "I got this far without dying", Also, as Magikarp mentioned, I believe you get a bad *** pile of skulls or something at the base of your banner.
Also...
Absolutely this. A lot more mature people seem to play Hardcore. Just from my experience. I played USWEST HC pretty much strictly, and that always seemed to be the case.

You had me at bad *** pile of skulls!
You forgot what for me is the best one: no RMAH, i.e. no pay-to-win... and a much smaller economy, presumably, so even in the gold AH there'll be a lot fewer rare items for sale. Self-sufficiency ftw
Unless of course they add a hardcore RMAH, which there was talk of :(
RMAH is not a problem. Ppl is.
And there is no way to get rid of them.
The risk playing HC rather than care bear makes things far more interesting. :-)
