Oops, missed that.
Oops, missed that.
There where certainly moments in open beta where I preferred a white weapon/armor over a magical one because it had more DPS or armor. Later in the game do I expect to need good blue(and later yellow) items to progress further, maybe even requiring uniques and set items(or godly rares) for inferno.
There should be something to do with white items. If there were required as base for crafting, or if there were runewords, or gemwords/jewelwords. But atm they are "charsifood", or not even that since they are too cheap to be even worth taking to town.
Using white items as a base for crafting is one of those ideas that sounds great on the surface, but I would find incredibly annoying if I had to do it in reality. It would suck a lot of the fun out of crafting for me and heavily reduce the benefit it has toward twinking.
When I'm rolling my 100th demon hunter in hardcore, I don't want to have to scramble around in normal to find a white weapon upgrade so I can start using something decent. I want to flush money and mats into my artisan to get me what I need to get through normal as quickly as possible.
I'm not necessarily against using normal items for a base in crafting, but I definitely don't want to look for the exact item types I want to craft. If I want to craft a Normal level war sword, let me use a Normal level broad sword or any other type of one-handed sword from Normal difficulty as well. Although I think that at that point the system would be just a needless hassle, but I could tolerate that.
Did it occur to anyone that using only white items will be the way to go once we become masters of the game, and want more challenges ?
As in D2, naked runs of various characters. Well due to the itemization in D3, you'll have to use a weapon. So we need white weapons in the game, in order to be allowed to make "naked runs" using only white stuff.
That will be a very fun and challenging part of the game once inferno is beaten.
And more junk means better loot is more interesting to find. If there were no whites, people would complain that blues are useless, because you always find a rare that is better. See where this is going ?
G.R.D. (White only runs will be fun)
I think white-only, or "Luddite Mode", sounds like a great alternative to naked runs. You get more challenge, but still get to keep the fun of finding loot.
They are all junk, all least for the time being. After I saw the sell price to the vendors was 2-5 gold per non-magic item, I didn't even both picking them up.
Let's hope there will be less of these items dropping later in the game, if nearly nobody will pick them up.
