So the answer is yes they are useless but for a good reason.
The only reason for that is because you have to CRAFT blue items to get good stuff. If you compare the blue items that drop compared to the quality of the ones crafted, it is no comparison. This could be only for the beta, but if this is in the real game too, it will be extremely important to pickup every blue item that drops so you can salvage it and create enough Subtle Essence to forge better items.
I'd still like to see an actual item required for forging instead of X or Y quantity of subtle essence. it would still make whites have some kind of late-game value
Imo it's worth it to keep the best high-lvl white items (15/15/3s, or the equivalent in D3). They may well add a use for them in the future. Perhaps even years down the road. Remember, they increased the rune drop rate and added respecs in D2... Something thought unthinkable by many in the former years. I for one will be keeping all the 'uber' white items, but only the best of the best. If I run out of room then I will put them on the RMAH and see if other people have the same scheme as me.![]()
what's funny is that there are things that people are complaining about with regards to loss of gameplay, speccing characters being one of them. I think back to the early ninties and playing adventure games like the secret of monkey island and some of the things they did because that was what passed for 'gameplay,' and i cringe (Use Rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle on clothesline, i'm looking at you). Respeccing is something that ten years ago that was inconceivable because it interfered with 'gameplay.' now, it's pretty much expected.
They should have made whites part of the crafting process. That's what I thought I needed when I first ran thru but later realized that the artisan already has everything you'll ever need itemside. Just shows the problems when you put a bunch of developers in charge of a game franchise they have no experience in. Expect more of these problems.
Completely disagree. If they made white items as being salvageable, people would be running around with amazing gear waaay too early on. Game is already a lil on the easy side on normal mode, being able to craft white items would make the game a complete joke in terms of difficulty.
You got me wrong. What I meant was that white items should be an ingredient in the crafting process that get consumed. Thus, there would be a reason for them dropping and collecting them. Because you would need a white to craft anything. It could also give the player a bit more of control of the crafting result as a superior white could have better/higher affixes.
