Which means the minimum 0.01c for 1000g (sorry, not verified, just something I picked up on these forums) can easily kill gold<->$ trading. But then again, I'm sure Blizzard aren't stupid and will pick up on this, and let the minimum gold price be low enough to allow a free market. They're losing enough trades by setting a minimum price for RMAH items as it is.
I'm talking my initial gear in normal to get me past whites and have some actual gear that does what I want. Which is basically decent armor with +primary stat, and a weapon with decent dps. I averaged about 2-3 rolls per piece of gear before I got something that was acceptable.
Unless it turns out that normal mats and gold are selling like hotcakes for way more than I expected, I'll be using the crappy non-inferno mats to help me progress faster to get to the difficulties where the real money is. But that's a judgement call I'll have to wait until release to make.
I am going to say the obvious (for many here) :
1.There are 2 ways to make (good) money in Diablo 3 : EXTENSIVE farming (8 hrs+ / day) or EXTENSIVE trading (6 hours / day, spliited in 2 or 3 sessions);
2.Every trader in Diablo 3 will start with a number of days of extensive farming OR a 200-250 $ capital (highly unlikley...but not impossible).
3.The extensive farmers will (at least in first week) to mostly ignore leveling the artisans. In time, some of them will realize that crafting might net same gold ($$$) per hour especialy using their farmed materials.
4.The traders will ABSOLUTELY have to max their artisans. The faster, the better. This will be taken into consideration when in the needed farming phase.
I expect gold selling prices to stabilize quite fast (both extensive farmers and traders - the leading force of the game economy) after farmers and traders have set their min - max income / day.
I expect a 2 to max 3 weeks frame until gold will stabilize.
I also expect gold to be sold at 50-70% higher prices than the stabilized price, but will only sum up the ocassional first week gold buyers (highly unlikely that people will buy gold or items from RMAH in first week).
In the following 2 weeks after initial first week rush (weeks 2 and 3) all components of the economy (farmers and traders on one side and buyers on the other side) will slowly, but implacabily, reach a healthy gold transaction rate, stabilizing the prices in both AH.
I do not dismiss the potential early earnings in RMAH, but in NO case a 100,000 gold posibily worth 10 $ in first days will drop to 1,000,000 gold for 1 $ in 3 weeks. The above numbers are totally make up (the ones i estimated are FAR lower).
I expect gold to stabilize to 29,000 - 30,000 for 1 $.
I also expect some gold to be sold in first week at a rate of 20,000 gold for 1 $.
Anyone thinking in terms of 10,000 per $ in first day and 1,000,000 per $ in 3 weeks is delusional.
This blog post is really relevant
source http://www.d3enews.com/2012/04/26/th...y-days-part-i/Blizzard’s Real Money Auction House is like nothing the gaming world has ever seen before. Early days strategists often seem to miss this point. They start thinking of what they’re going to do by making a set of assumptions such as “No one will be spending money in the first week because of X reason” and building a strategy around it, without even considering how unverifiable the very foundation of their thinking is! As a result, the guy who develops their strategy around the guess that gold will have no value later on will sell all of his and will miss any gold-based opportunity later on, or vice versa.
Instead of making random guesses, a more holistic, big-picture approach needs to be taken when we are developing our early days strategy. If we do this, we can form more robust and adaptable tactics which focus on the mitigation of downside risk and the capture of upside.
I think we should do some stuff like post items with decent minimum bids frequently, to take advantage of our limited # of free daily listings (free listings do refresh daily ye?)

Looks like we won't be selling anything the first week.
