Yes, but they're just speculating. They haven't played the game through and they haven't come close to end-game gameplay. So how can they possibly know if it's any good?

Well I played solo this morning once I finally got it all downloaded and installed. I liked it more than I expected to, although so far I prefer the D1 and D2 style of creating builds. The crafting stuff seems like it might be interesting. I guess I'll buy it and play through for the story, and maybe do multiplayer with friends (will we have a meet-up system for SPF gang?) but it's not really looking like it will change how much D2 is my go-to game.

    Re: SPF's Thoughts on D3

    TL;DR of my opinion

I grew increasingly disenchanted with almost every new feature/change they made as it became clear they had zero intention to make the game anything like D2, and more importantly most of them just seemed lame. That being said, I get super-annoyed by people wining about this and that feature and every little detail when the fact is they don't know how these things integrate with one another, i.e. we actually have no idea what the game will be like to play and re-play. You can speculate, but it's just that: speculation.

It's likely going to be a good game, whether I'll like it... I don't know. I'll try a trial/demo version if there's one, otherwise I'll get it some time after release.

I think part of people's problem is that they want it to be a copy of D2 with different quests.

I have "slow internet" + my computer is crap = D3 is crap, for now. Don't know what will happen in month or two.

For me, it would be a big investment for a game that completely depends on fast and reliable internet connection, which I most likely won't have in near future.

I don't have a lot of money, so I would only buy a game that I can play for a very long time and I don't need to have LAN-fast internet connection and whatnot. 10 char cap and long distant servers are currently a dealbreakers for me.

    Re: SPF's Thoughts on D3

I have to admit that the online-only part of D3 isn't something I think about much at this point. When I first heard about it I was extremely disappointed but then I considered that I'd been playing WOW for several years, which had followed 2 years of D2 on b.net, and I figured online only isn't likely to impact me that much.

I've been without an internet connection a few times since first playing D2 on b.net and I suppose it just doesn't bother me that I may be unable to play D3 sometimes... I'll go back to SP D2 or some other offline game. Online only feels a negative in some respects, but a reason to never play at all? Heck no!

    Re: SPF's Thoughts on D3

So I beat the open beat with a SC Monk, a HC wizard and a HC barb and started a HC Demon Hunter. So far, I really like the game! I especially enjoy to take apart the environment for some strange reason...

It's fast-paced, the classes are very different, the graphics are fine (no, I don't think it's too cartoony).

What I miss most so far is the option to pause the game ("could you please take the baby for a while" - "WTF? I'm fighting the Skeleton King! I have no time for the baby!!!!") and I'm racking my mind to think how to create tournament challenges in a game, where heroes share money and Artisans...there's no way tournaments are going to be as balanced as in D2 without a lot of Pen&Paper notes.

I'm pretty sure that you can pause the game, if you're in a private game and by yourself.

I'm not near an computer to test it, so I wen't with some google fu.

    EDIT: It works

    Re: SPF's Thoughts on D3

I had access to the beta a few months ago for two weeks, and it was some of the most fun I've had playing a video game in a while. There are things I don't like about it, but I would rather play the Diablo 3 beta than most of the new games that have come out in the past few years. I doubt Diablo 3 will be as good as Diablo 2, but D2 is one of the best games ever made in my opinion, so that isn't really a fair comparison.

I think D2 had to deal with that demon, as D1 was so utterly incredible in its time. For me, it is far too early to decide if I think D3 is particularly good at all, let alone an all-time great, but I don't hear too many people even suggesting it as a possible great. However, there is probably a whole generation of gamers that barely/never played D2 and are going to get their first taste of the Diablo style of gaming with D3, it'll probably be them that determine if it is a great game, not us.

(perhaps a few people new to the series will trickle down into D2 and inject a bit of new life into the scene, that would probably be welcome)
