D2 had some challenge on Normal if you played untwinked. Even in Act I. The first thing that comes to mind is Coldcrow in the Cold Plains Cave. If you jumped there right after clearing CP above, then most of the times Coldcrow would kick your butt all the way to town.
I had a few moments of trouble in D3 Beta that forced me to drink a pot (e.g. a Nightmarish scavenger mob vs my Barb somewhere in the Weeping Hollows), so I have hope that Normal Hardcore won't be a snooze-fest.
D2 had really strange difficulties so I don't know if using it as a comparison is a good idea. Normal untwinked was way harder than nightmare.
It was a terrible feeling of 'meh' but I second a lot of players' insight and opinions.
My main gripes with the game, having only played the beta the past couple days, are the revamped skill/rune system and rather boring starting quests (assuming these are the start). I dunno, having to play the hour, maybe hour and a half to reach skeleton king got boring by my third run-through.
In all honesty I wasn't going to buy the game yet but after reading what other people have been saying most of today I feel a lot better about it and plan to pre-order just to enjoy it for what it is/will be. So thanks everyone, let's all have a blast!
First of all the game didn't take 10 years to be made, It was only announced in 2007? if im correct, All previous works on Diablo 3 (from Ex-Blizz North team was scrapped in around 2005 or so, and was completely re-started in anywhere around 2006-2007, that is indeed rough dates, but its far more accurate then just blindly saying "zomg over 10 years in the making"
The artstyle of DOTA 2 should of been diablo 3?? Umm... noo.... thats your personal opinion, respected, but just.... no......... and you just over-hyped the game to yourself, especially beta, you can only blame yourself, even I did initially back in 2008/2009, i over-hyped, but rather then just sticking with that negative feeling i had, i tried to look at the whole game from different perspectives, it's a complete mine field if you stay in the narrow-minded nostalgic perspective, once i accepted the terms that it's going to be 'different' from diablo 2, and tried to stop comparing that "feeling" it became alot more enjoyable
I too can't play the beta for that long, just cleared it on classes, then stopped--- BUT A GREAT EXAMPLE OF WHATS TO COME is when we got the sneak peak "BEYOND THE GATE" I actually worried myself in the passing months before we got to see Festering Woods etc, that I would have this same feeling of what I have towards the BETA towards the rest of the game, but as soon as i got out of beta content and even roamed around in half finished zones past the gate, the feelings all rush back and its all there
My biggest advice is just to try to not compare nostalgic "feels" you have previously had in the Diablo genre, and just enjoy the game for what it is, and wait for the full release before you make any drastic decisions
That immersion worries you have i understand, take a step back, take a better perspective and wait for full release
Hopefully you haven't over-hyped yourself too much, and got so mentally destroyed by the beta that you will blindly just hate Diablo 3 and never get into the immersion that is waiting for you, I really hope you don't, but i truthfully fear this is going to hit alot of people that just didn't approach the development phase with the right mind-set
Diablo will still be the king of ARPGS.
Out of the four people I know that have played during the beta weekend, all four gave a "meh" response.
The general consensus was that the game play is decent, but not as good as they have envisioned, given the excruciatingly wait.
we know very little about items(+ skill mods? legendary only mods? low enough drop chances?) but if it's good than D3 will be great because the combat feels very good in the beta
my only problem with D3 so far is the music. music in the beta is horrible compared to D2

I just did a very quick run with the DH and turned off music and dialogue, and i was immersed much more, even though the ambiance is also pretty weak. Wish i could turn off the annoying (...) above the head of my character everytime something is being said, and having to click away all the dialogue boxes and quest windows all the time doesn't help either.
It's kind of amazing how LAME the interface is. Why can't I just skip all conversations with a SINGLE click or ESC? This damn "(...)" sign also looks lame. It's should be a mouth sign with little lips. It would look much better. Or better yet, it should be nothing at all. Why is chat pane looking so cheap? Why is mini-map looking so cheap, also without frames? There are sooo many flaws comparing to the polished D2 interface.
I have to agree with your meh feeling but ONLY on the beta content, we get to play only the begining of the game with ultra limited number of skills against limited enemies monsters. So yeah the beta is not tremendously amazing but wait to play the real game, wait to fight through the overall game with the 100% potential of your class. I have been following almost every news and video concerning D3. And every intch of late game previews looks absolutly awesome to me. So let's not get to disapointed either after this beta test and get prepare for the real game. Because in 21 days this will be when the REAL FUN begins.![]()
