It is my monk's destiny to dual wield wizardspikes, lol.
I posted this in another thread.
Here is an analysis of skill viability across all spirit generators
Skill Base % Buffed %
WOTHF 140 150
FOT 110 110
CW 110 143
DR 110 130
Utilizing Two (2) Generators (Assuming 1 will be DR for foresight and 100% uptime) Base Damage = 100
CW + DR: 1.43 * 1.18 = 1.6874 * 100 * 111 = 18730.14
DR Only: 1.1 * 1.18 = 1.298 * 100 * 130 = 16874
FOT + DR: 1.1 * 1.18 = 1.298 * 100 * 147 = 19080
WOTHF + DR: 1.5 * 1.18 = 1.77 * 100 * 130 = 23010
Damage Scaling in Hell and Inferno (For Raw damage potential we are evaluating enemies with unlimited HP completely surrounding the player; this is to analyze how much damage the skills are capable of putting out) We take into consideration enemies hit in each of the three phases of the combo
Skill & # of enemies hit in each phase 1 - 2 - 3
WOTHF 1 - 1 - 2 = 1.5 uni-directional
FOT 2 - 2 - 3 = 2.333 uni-directional
CW 2 - 5 - 10 = 5.6 enemies hit from all sides
DR 4 - 4 - 6 = 4.6 uni-directional
Extrapolation utilizing the average # of enemies hit across all three phases and the single target damage output per minute for each skill (Assuming 100% foresight uptime)
WOTHF 1.5 * 23010 = 34515
FOT 2.5 * 19080 = 47700
CW 5.6 * 18730 = 104888
DR 4.6 * 16784 = 77206

I do remember this post. Even though the amount of affected enemies is slightly subjective, I like the amount of thought you put into it. So if you take these final numbers and apply them to the inherent damage multipliers of each skill (excluding WotHF for now) you get:
FoT: (47700*1.45)+(47700*1.45)+(47700*1.3)= 200340
CW: (104888*1.2)+(104888*1.2)+(104888*1)= 356619
DR: (77206*1.45)+(77206*1.45)+(77206*.9)=293382
Of course this is without any special effects from runes applied (like teleport, spirit gain, etc). This is also multiple enemy damage, where Crippling Wave and Deadly Reach shine over Fists of Thunder. For single target damage (not counting # of enemies, were talking about:
FoT: (19080*1.45)+(19080*1.45)+(19080*1.3)= 80136
CW: (18730*1.2)+(18730*1.2)+(18730*1)= 63682
DR: (16874*1.45)+(16874*1.45)+(16874*.9)= 64120
Of course, for single target FoT beats the other two as expected, though not to the same degree that CW/DR excel in multiple targets (that's assuming you can always land your attack on every target though). Runes would change all of this, and WotHF is the wild card. I personally don't believe it's as fast as FoT... it seems like you get the one hit, then a pause, then a rapid flurry of blows, with another brief pause, then the third hit. I think FoT is faster myself, but I wont guess on what the inherent multiplier of WotHF is. It does have the highest base damage (140%), so I'll be interested in getting some numbers on it's speed in a month or two.
Indeed. One thing to note is that WotHF can be runed to increase its attack speed whenever you crit (stacks thrice), and the increased attack speed would proc even more crits.
One question regarding this though - does anyone know if each of WotHF's attacks can crit separately? If so it'd be useful to keep up Sweeping Wind's stacks.
Then there's also the question of whether the game will have proc items that would benefit from the faster hits.
That explains why I felt a little delay on the third FoT strike. Thanks a lot for this, I thought I was just crazy!
Yes they can. You can see it crit in the opening gameplay segment of this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj1xMoFsdBU
Excellent!![]()
Also note, if you look at that vid carefully, that WOTHF doesn't actually appear to be strictly single target - it looks like it can hit multiple enemies, albeit in a very small cone directly in front of the monk.
Players with the most skill will be able to position themselves to reap a significant advantage!
I'm planning on making a Cyclone Strike/Sweeping Wind/WotHF monk - pull all the monsters on the screen onto you, then use Sweeping Wind and WotHF to damage them while using WotHF's crits to keep Sweeping Wind at max stacks. The small AoE on WotHF should do nicely.
Well, that's assuming I don't just die outright from all the enemies on top of me, lol.
