Summary: Spirit generators apply a modifier to your attack speed when using them, which distinguishes them from every other attack in the game which simply uses attack speed to determine cast speed.
Here are the modifiers known so far:
Fists of Thunder
1st Strike: 1.45
2nd Strike: 1.45
3rd Strike: 1.3
Average: 1.4
Deadly Reach
1st Strike: 1.45
2nd Strike: 1.45
3rd Strike: 0.9
Average: 1.26
Crippling Wave
1st Strike: 1.2
2nd Strike: 1.2
3rd Strike: 1
Average: 1.13
For more info including how these numbers were calculated feel free to read the thread. My experience in beta leads me to believe these numbers are accurate despite not having gone into a frame by frame analysis as Apples did.
Yep, those numbers look about right. It's not just generators though that have a modified attack speeds. According to Superstate, all spenders (at least for the Barb) have an innate 10% APS bonus. Corpse Spiders on the hand have a much lower base attack speed for example, compared to other WD skills.
Where can I find more Superstate stuff? It sounds like I should be reading this :P.
Interesting, I concur with z00t is there a place I can read about these innate bonus/fixed attacks for barbs? Sounds like a must read.
As far as WD goes, even though corpse spider attack speed isn't related to attack speed, the rate at which you can bring out corpse spiders is so it's a moot point. However I would be interested to know if there's anyway you can increase the other pets attack speed such as zombie dogs, gargantuan, & the wizard's hydra since they can't exactly be spammed like corpse spiders are. I suppose we'll figure out the mechanics of those skills once the game is live =)
My favorite combo in the beta is to use Fist of Thunder for the first two hits then Crippling Wave for the 3rd hit. Once you get the timing down it is very effective.
Very interesting. I had figured FoT was always faster than DR but if it's only the third strike, FoT seems much less useful. The first two strikes are just like DR minus the AoE. :|
Yea, people are all over FoT but it remains the weakest (as far as damage output) of the spirit generators.
Any word on Way of the Hundred Fists?
Unfortunately no testing can occur because it isn't available in the beta. If I were a betting man, I'd say it would be in he 1.45 range, in line with FoT because of its single target nature.
