yes this is sort of a whine because:
- Shadow Power: new version sucks. boring/useless
- Spike Trap: why did they change the animation to ugly-mode?
- Multishot: whats this bad black aftershot-animation-thingy?
- Strafe: srsly, when theres like 1 or 2 monsters on the screen and you still whirl and shoot in all directions its just....meh
...
its kind of shocking cause up to now even if the graphics engine sucked at least the animations were always top notch. not this time. and i doubt they'll change much as they already denied it
also i just dont get why in 12 years they couldn't come up with a set of skills that looks and feels nice and dont change them from bad to worse like it seems recently......
please enlighten me
Havent seen the first three skills in motion, but strafe feels like youre walking around with a ****ing machine gun. I'ts one of my favorites atm. When you release mouse button you stop shooting. There is no such "strafe lock".
yeah well the feel of it may be great but the look is kinda weird if u use it for single targets and spinning around like a freaking spintop.
and i think i kinda know what bugs me about a lot of the animations....
Just go to http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/class/wizard/active/ f.e. and look at the preview picture of the "archon" skill...... idk, but a lot of animations look like they are in a painterly style too - what is nice for the environment - but feels and looks strange and ugly for skills. its the same with BOLA.....
this orangeish- color blob....seriously? coudlnt they animate a nice looking somethingy like 0---------0 that looks like its supposed to be and not just a big color blob that decreases in size before exploding?
this painterly style is the same as with multishots black "backfire" thing. and lots of other skills. blizzard just looks bad.
i dont know if anyone understands what im trying to say but just watch the "archon" skill movie and pause the action during the animations of the beam / blueish explosions etc. and tell me that this is the same company that did all those nice animations in their other games..... so sad.
Oh btw, by strafe I mean Rapid fire. Haven't seen strafe yet. I was skeptical the first time I used it because it looked like I was using a machine gun firing laser arrows heh. If visuals is important to you, D3 will be a let down, because the visuals seem pretty outdated. The painting style makes up for that to some extent, because its not supposed to be photorealistic. That being said visuals is not a gamebraker in D3. It took me 10 min to forget about them as I got sucked into the gameplay.
I agree that the new version of shadow power is lame and that the change to spike traps visual/mechanic is also disappointing, but the other two don't make much sense...
visuals arent that important for me in terms of photorealistic etc. Warcraft 3 unit polygons are as low as hell but who cares it looks and plays coherent also because all the animations are superb.
or, in other words, i never had to put thoughts in the graphics in blizz games while playing cause they always "felt" nice.
but some of the animations in D3 look just..off. and hey, you will use those skills for many many many many times but yeah i might talk about this in an own thread as this is just the DHs....just wanna see what others think about it
Old visuals for a lot of monk stuff was... simply amazing and spike trap was superb. I am actually hoping those visuals are still in the game as runed versions. I will be very disappoint if the animations were scrapped all together for the newer versions.
I'd also add the loss of Molten Arrow, that was great.
how does MA look now or what did i miss?
