25 Days is my estimate.
EDIT: I think it'll be nearly as hard as the dev's suggest, but that an exploit will be used to rush to the end.
3 days and 8-18 hours

Or someone posts a link to the achievement? Seems highly likely it'll be a very similar system to SC2. And there are plenty of sites that crawl those achievement profiles and collect data to answer questions like "When was Inferno first completed?"

17 days solo, with a barb
This should totally become an inc.gamers sponsored betting pool.

I was planning to post a main page vote on this, but much closer to release date. I can at least look over the predictions here to get an idea of the general time frame to include in the options, at least.
Personally, I think someone will beat Inferno within a week of launch. Probably more like 3 or 4 days. Non-stop players will be into hell, if not Inferno, within the first day or 2, and groups will zerg through Inferno no matter how hard the bosses are supposed to be.
I don't think anyone at home playing solo could do it, but people in groups, in a gaming cafe, maybe sharing access to the same account, or just playing in a group and helping each other out, will zoom through at a pace we won't believe. Certainly at a pace Bashiok won't believe, given his public comments on this issue. (Though there's no telling if he actually believes his "wipe on act one inferno bosses for weeks" comments, or that's just what his bosses told him to say to make players think the game is huge and super difficult.)
As for when we'll know, I bet word will spread very quickly, even if it's on a non-English server. D3 race won't be like in D2 where we could all follow the progress on the ladders, but the fastest players will want to brag and post screens/movies of their achievements, or the final battle, etc. After all, what's the fun in being FRIST if no one knows it but you?
hmm who will be the first active member of this community to beat inferno? now thats something i care about slighty more so lol
