Hehe that is a good point, but unfortunately the prices might be so unstable that high end gear sells quickly for cheap or people hoard it and don't sell. I'm no expert on this however.
I'm betting two weeks for the first softcore inferno clear. I hope it doesn't take the fastest person in the world much longer than that, because think what that means for slightly more casual players (ie. the rest of the WORLD)! It shouldn't take a month, that's for sure...I think Bashiok had no idea what he was talking about.
4 days.
Because.
I have a hard time seeing what would possibly take "months". If it's a gearcheck, RMAH + willingness to spend a lot of money, will cut that time away. If inferno is clearable solo, as has been stated, it can't be a matter of synergies either.
If it's a skillcheck, what "skill" is that really? Killing trash mobs with difficult modifiers? Since "trash"-mobs are more or less randomly generated, I'm assuming it's not about that either. Is it learning boss encounter mechanics? How many times can you run act bosses before you know the mechanics inside and out? Certainly not for months.
The only way I see an inferno clear taking months, is if they set the difficulty high enough that noone will be able to complete it with any amount of skill and gear and then lower it after a few months.
My guess is, 47 days.
thirty three days
OP Updated!
@Flux Thanks for the edit, I don't even know the blue tag existed :P also I changed your bet to 5 days.
Well if you're one of the first racing to clear Inferno for the first time, where are you going to buy the gear from? the best RMAH has to offer will be sub-par relative to your current gears.I have a hard time seeing what would possibly take "months". Skillwise one of the way I can think of is making all monsters really hard that you can't expect to charge straight through a pack of them and survive. You'll need to use your defensive and movement skill effectively combine that with a really high repair cost, then you can easily go bankrupt when each run cost you more than your loot.If it's a skillcheck, what "skill" is that really? Perhaps Inferno will require players to be patient and thoughtful, although Blizzard has also said that gears will play a huge part it.
In response to the latest point that Bashiok sorta made but kinda didn't, I think it's worth pointing out that a low number of days to clear isn't necessarily an indication of the game's difficulty for the majority of players. Someone clearing the whole game in 4 days doesn't necessarily mean I won't find a good amount of challenge and fun in the game for myself, even if I do consider myself an above average gamer.
So while speculating on how long (or more likely short) it takes the first player to beat all the content is fun, I think it's important to keep things in perspective.
I wager 22 days. Hadn't been taken yet lol and seems like a good amount.
Emzz, well, with the logic you're using to choose (date of post decides) a "winner" in the end, the only sensible thing to do is choose a date that hasn't been picked before yet. So i'll take 19 days. Gotta add though that i think it'll take less than that tbh.
6 days would be my bet - of course not taking into consideration massive downtimes...
