FW: An open letter to Mr Robert A. Kotick. 2/2

Since the other excellent post by Permaximum was trolled apart I put my answer in a new thread so more can read and indulge in my answer. See the original thread here http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...obert-A-Kotick

    _____________

    Hello fellow IncGamers

I don't get why you people are trolling Permaximus post. It's all true.
I am a small business owner myself so maybe I have an easier time understanding the deeper content of it.

You must understand that this game is a major failure in a strict business profit viewpoint. Do you think the Diablo 3 developers were initially being able to use 12(!!) years to develop Diablo 3 if it wasn't for World of Warcrafts success and earnings? No they would've gone bust a long time ago.

I really don't think that Diablo 3 will be (as) profitable. You need to count and take inte consideration all the expenses, software, hardware, social costs, office rent, for every person who has worked with it since 2000+.

Just look at Apple, every single product they manufacture is selling like mad. Or even better and relative to this thread, check out Activisions games. Most, if not all of them are a doing a major profit (most of them are garbage, but young people tend to like playing garbage games).

Diablo 3.. not so profitable. It all depends on how much we, the consumers will use the RMAH. I for one, will not.

I just wonder where the game would have ended up if Blizzard North was still in charge of its development.
And I would gladly pay good money to hear some recordings from these meetings, be able to understand why Blizzard HQ ditched them. And also how the merge with Activsion made the game release LATER than expected. The most obvious would be the opposite.

If I were a major shareholder I would call for heads to roll. Maybe that's why Blizzard let 600 people go?

Sadly It looks more and more like Diablo 3 will be big budget, action packed, linear Hollywood remake of a great concept. I hope I'm wrong.

    Thank You.

    And?

There is this misconception that company's only purpose is to make profit for the owner. The purpose is what ever owner wants it to be. If he (them in this case) don't care what goes on it's his own business, literally.

    Hello Karpalo,

Yes, I agree with you that the owner does what he/she wants with his/her company. That is kind of my sidepoint with this post. Diablo 2 never felt like an over-budgeted action movie whilst Diablo 3 for me does. Do the developers REALLY love their job and can you see that those people really have put their soul into this game? With the confined budget that Blizzard North had, it really showed off in the game that they loved their game. And also how they talked about it to the press.

Diablo 3 is more like: Jay Wilson sitting in a chair with his Diablo 3 t-shirt and saying "ye, and as a barb you can DEVASTATE and BLOW UP them monsters" *clip of a lvl 60 barbs whirlwinding lvl 15 monsters starts to play on the screen*.

So... what are you trying to achieve with this post? Perma at least had the excuse of making it novel and funny.

Dread, it's nice that you agree with him, but you should know that he spends almost all of him time on these forums telling people who are looking forward to the game that they're stupid. Hence, the "trolling", as you call it.

Karpalo is correct, however, ATVI is a corporation, not just a company. A corporation's sole purpose is to generate profit for shareholders.

Two points, the first obvious, the second more subtle.
Does that mean that even releasing it is a mistake? On a business level, sure, but we can't forget that they have spent the entire past decade milking concepts from the previous decade, and these things always have an end. They have milked it well, but the total inability to create new IP was going to be problematic at some point.

Gonna say that I'm happy with the direction they've taken D3 in. If you would like to actually dispute individual points where you think they could have improved, then let's argue them. But all you and Permaximum seem capable of doing is making blanket, sweeping statements about how 'fail' D3 has the potential to be without actually justifying or qualifying your claims.

With regards to the business aspect; you're not a part of Blizzard's business. Pretending to have even an inkling of understanding of how they should operate their business, how it is operated, or what they should do, is just ignorance. You're not informed enough to make those criticisms or critiques.

It's obvious that small business owners these days have too much time on their hands.

Who cares about any of this? Either play it or don't. The game comes out in a month, at some point, it is time to just let go of the rage.
