Increase defense by 20%, with additional 50% increase in all resistances.
When i first read this skill i was like:

But then i got down to earth and think to myself...
Blizzard are you high ??? And i don't care even if it affects only the barb and not the entire party (which i doubt, i think all effected allies gets their resistances increased as well) this skill needs serious nerf. I'd say 25%-30% increase in all resistances is quite enough...
Last time i checked resistances aren't percentage based. So who knows how much is "much".
The rune says 50% increase to resistances and as Doppel says, base resistances are not % based. 50% more resists will mean that if you have e.g. 250 frost resist you'll have 375 with War Cry up. Also, the damage reduction from resistance is linear only with respect to time to live, not % reduction, so 50% increase in resistances will probably mean you will live 50% longer from the same sustained base DPS from spell-based damage. That would be very useful in certain situations where you're taking almost entirely spell damage, and could in those situations be overpowered. However, the 50% increase in time to live is something I made up (I have no idea what the actual increase is, and if it's only 25% more TTL for 50% increase in the raw resist number, then it would almost never be overpowered).
with all the nerfing going around in recent patches i would not be shocked to see this one get nerfed soon but if it dont then i figure that means its good as is
I love people crying about something being OP when a) They've never used it and b) they don't know how it's effect actually works in game.
The 50% boost may be a lot or very little depends on how much resist you already have. For example, if you have enough resistance to double your survivability, then a 50% boost will make you like 2.5X instead of 2X, effectively adding 25% to your HP (and healing) when fighting casters. If you only have a tiny amount of resistance, then the +50% will do almost nothing.
With the above replace "resist" with "armor" and you can say the same thing, since resistances work just like armor but against magic damage.
This is very different than how things worked in D2, and very similar to how they work in WoW, and in this case the WoW system makes a whole lot more sense.
I'm still not sure if a % bonus to armor/resistances is the right way to give you defensive bonuses through skills/passives, though, since it scales in a weird way with your gear - But that's a completely different discussion.
I suspect that the '50%' is not as much as it sounds.
After all, each class' respective stat increases their damage by that much in %. So +100 strength for the Barb is +100% damage, and later in the game, individual pieces of armour have hundreds of points worth of stats @_@.
+50% to resistances will still be good, but offhand, I can see it not being OP.
What is 50%?
If your resistance is 9%, does it go to 59%. Or if it's 9% does it go to 13.5% ?
It's like MF, it's based on the first value, it does't add to it.
50% of let's say 10% cold will make 15% in the end.
