Cooldowns add variety by creating a second, orthogonal resource, time. Now instead of just having big spells cost more primary resource, they may be limited in time as well. This gives the game developers freedom to create low-, medium- and high-power skills that can be used by players in a variety of combinations, provided some use the primary resource (e.g. mana) and some use time (e.g. by cooldown), or both. With the new, more varied selection of abilities comes the freedom to create more interesting and varied enemies, because players will have additional tools available to defeat them. This means more variety and more engaging gameplay on multiple fronts.
I have no problem with this personally because the only reason I play games is for escapism. If the game isn't engaging, it is worthless.
I think a lot of the haters could really enjoy this game:

OT: stupid tablet won't let me paste right!
I think this was meant as a criticism of cooldowns, but I actually like the sound of this. I like both turn-based strategy games and real-time strategy games, but fortunately (or unfortunately?) Diablo is neither, so the game won't ever be slowed to a crawl, or require intense micro or macromanagement.
I think the cooldowns are there to add some tactical play, but also to simply "spice up" the game, adding more randomness and more potential situations which could unfold throughout your Diablo experience. Some people may not like it, but I do.
In another effort to "WoW-ize" D3, CD's will also add the same balance issues that they presented in WoW as well. Clans...CD's...Fury...yeah. All issues I have seen discussed here.
I almost regret buying the Collector's Edition at this point, but we'll see what happens in the final product.
And no, it was not an April Fool's joke- CD's do not add play depth...but that is a discussion for another thread.
Your complaints have no depth. There will always be limitations on the frequency of skill use. Whether that limitation comes from cool downs or finite resources, it will be there and you won't be able to spam the same skill forever. If you like repetitive, boring, broken things, though, there's always Diablo 2.
when you have a game as big as wow with as many players as it has had there will of course be ideas and systems taken from it. welcome to this amazing thing called "the real world". see in this place when something is a huge hit/winner people copy parts of it and improve others. this is not just a video game thing.
also wow did not invent cooldowns so i dont see how having them in d3 means they are making it like wow?
good news, you can still get your money back for the CE so no worries or regrets there
also cooldowns do add another layer of depth but like you said thats best suited for another thread. maybe we can do it in the den of evil off topics or some clan recruitment thread?
PoE has zero CDs, yet somehow feels much slower than D3.
lolalso cooldowns do add another layer of depth but like you said thats best suited for another thread. maybe we can do it in the den of evil off topics or some clan recruitment thread?
