upping magefists

According to arreat summit Crusador Gaunlets are defense 59-68
So 30%edef magefist upgraded twice to Crusador Gauntlets should get 69 * 1.3 = 89 defense ?
I upped mine and got 95 defense so I am a bit confused.

while an item is upped, the defense of the new base item is rolled randomly. so you get 59-68 * 1.3 = 76 - 88

(max base defese + 1) * 1.ED only applies if the item is dropped like that. so upping is a gamble. vipermagis defense can vary from 8xx to 1xxx and u can actually have less defence on a herold of zakarum after upping than it had before

That's what I thought. How did I get 95 defense ? I'm certainly not complaining.

Magefist has +10 Defense additionally to +(20-30)% ED mod. So you got [66*1.3] +10=95.
