Within the Gizmaluke Grotto Garnet had slain The Smith, a demon who was actually crafting weapons for the goblins in the region. It looked as though the supplies were stolen from Alexandria, Treno and even Lindblum, which was where they were heading next. They went to the Smith's forge and there she put on some boots.
Trust me, Garnet, it'll work.
You're going to ruin my favourite pair!
You can always buy another set when you're in Alexandria next. Besides, do you really want to be caught so easily? Some people take great note of things like shoes, like. . . woman?
Fine -_-
He was about to smack them with the Malus to rid her of those ugly boots when the hammer actually passed through them and hit the forge beneath. The boots glimmered, and were imbued with some new magical properties. . .

Tot was shocked. He couldn't believe it actually worked. At least they don't look as ugly. So they both sot of got what they wanted.
Wow! These are incredible! The heels aren't as ridiculous, so I can run/walk faster! The toes aren't going to hurt me as much either. . . I already feel my stamina regaining itself. . .
Yeah yeah, let's use those fancy new boots and get out of here.
You're just jealous
A little
On their way out they took a slightly different route, and there they saw a cold enchanted, misshapen goblin which spit lightning. Terrifying. So she hurled a dozen fireballs at it and its minions, easily dispatching it. The demon dropped something shiny, too.

Ooo, fancy! It matches my boots, too!
You won't be needing it with your staff, though.
Yes, but it will go nicely with my dagger!
You won't be needing that dagger, either. . .
Yes I will! Look, I'll replace it if I ever find an enchanted one, but this reminds me of someone dear.
There aren't many daggers which mages use :/
All of the black mages in the old legends of the Warriors of Light used daggers.
Good, you remember your readings from childhood.
They made their way back to Treno, and near Tot's tower cellar they found the Gargan Roo tunnel. On their way towards the bottom they found many gargoyle statues which Tot had great pride in.
Believe it or not, they normally do a great job of keeping out the demons, even in my absence. I'm not sure why we've been seeing so many. . .
Just then the statue spit a fireball toward Garnet, who pulled out her shield to deflect it. She quickly countered with an ice blast, which was her first. The statue shattered after a few arrows from her mercenary, and Garnet was promoted to level 19!
Throw that Ral rune in your staff. Your fireball will grow in strength tremendously!
She did, and she did! Her fireball was more than twice as strong as before, her mana recovered more quickly, and she felt more resistant to cold, too.

They continued their way to the bottom, except, the beast which would be carrying them wasn't there. Tot whistled for it, and instead of the enthusiastic footsteps of the beast, they both heard a demon scream at them. A big one, from the sounds of it. Plenty of Goblins sprinted their way from the direction of the scream, so fireballs and arrows were shot toward them. When the demon, Andariel, came into view Garnet almost dropped her staff from shock.
I think that's what's responsible for the Gargoyle statues acting up. . .
Garnet went shot as many fireballs as she could before the demon got up close, at which point she started using Static Field to bring her down a notch. Then the demon smacked her really quick and she was poisoned. Garnet had a really close call with that, but she spammed the rejuvenation potions in fear, and then her mercenary finished off the demon with a fire arrow.
My god that was close. What were you thinking?
I think if I even attempted to dodge it and run I would have been chased down. . .
Thank god it seemed to be weak to fire. It's a good thing you got that staff upgraded before the fight. . .
Yeah. Let's get out of this place.
Tot whistled for the beast again, and it ran up quicker than he knew it could, and as they got on their shuttle, it sped away from the burning corpses of Andariel, down the tunnel towards Lindblum. . .
Now that i've finished act 1 with everyone, I thought I'd post my thoughts on the project. I probably won't do this every act, but here we go.
I'm very happy with this. It feels good to be drawing on my memory of the FF series as I play, and listen to the music to help myself remember. A lot of what I said is just locations and sometimes enemies or thoughts that the characters have met or something similar. It's been fun trying to incorporate the locales in the D2iverse and the FF series, although I expect some major difficulty with Act 2. I have only a few big-picture ideas as of yet, but we'll see. As soon as a character dies I'll have to be pretty creative about that :/
So far I think Arc (windy) and Kefka (daggermancer) are going to be my 2 favourite builds. Of course it is hard to tell this early, as I've never really tried any of these builds before, but we'll see.
Thanks to all of those who read or skim this :P A lot of my thoughts don't wind up written down, as I feel familiar with them as I'm writing, so only those with lots of experience with the series (or the specific game you're reading about) will really understand what's going on sometimes. I hope that's okay
Next stop: Act 2 (NOOOOOOOOO!!!!)
oops, somehow missed one...
In the 3rd fantasy Arc made it to the cathedral, and discovered the entrance to the catacombs within. They fought there way through the catacombs, with many fights taking long periods of time.
It's too bad this wolf isn't very tough. He make a very good tank, at least.
Yeah, I haven't been receiving any heat and you know my arrows are doing most of the work![]()
I think he's such a tank because of the oak sage you summoned. I can see that sage being a companion for as long as you live!
Arc gained a level after a particularly tough group of misshapen goblins, and felt his cyclone armor becoming even stronger. He didn't find anything of great value, aside from some gems along the way, and when they made it to the bottom of the catacombs, it reeked of death.
Ugh.. I think it's that pool of blood, there.
Well, apparently some of the goblins heard him, and the room which was full of them charged. Arc spawned a raven to blind some of them, and rebuffed his cyclone armor so he could resist the fireballs of the goblin mages. He went straight for them as his pets distracted the rest of the goblins. After the battle was complete they opened the giant door leading to Andariel's chamber.
Andariel... that name sounds familiar. . .
Shhh, there are some zombies there, and tough ones, too. Let's take them out first.
Arc spawned another raven on the group of zombies and started whacking the ones the raven didn't get around to blinding, blinding them himself with his axe he found in his stash (he could have sworn he didn't have this before...)
Look out!
A poison dart nearly hit Arc. He didn't think his armor would protect him from that.
Fear me!
Well, he didn't at first, but after she destroyed his wolf in one swift blow he grew a little more frightened. . . He summoned another, and a carrion vine, and another wolf, and then an oak sage. she seemed to keep knocking them down with ease. She wasn't even showing much damage from the arrows being fired her way.
I'll slow her down with my cold arrow! Try to keep up the pets. If she focuses too much on your we may be in big trouble. . .
Arc downed an antidote potion really quickly and ran up to hack at her with the axe. She immediately turned around and smacked him, but he parried with his buckler of deflecting.
That was lucky. . .
She was slowing down. Her attacks seemed weaker, and they didn't think she would last much longer. *phwum* He spawned another wolf, and a raven to try to get at her eyes. No luck with that, as she had swatted it away easily. Still it bought them enough time to weaken her further, and when she went to hit him next he threw a few twisters her way. It didn't do much harm, and he backed behind a burning rogue corpse, and threw another few twisters, blowing the flame into the demon. That was the end of her. . .
The catacombs was empty, aside from Arc, his archer and the crystal on Andariel's throne. He approached it.
Excellent work, hero! I do not have the strength to give you any more spells, i'm afraid. You have what ti takes to make it to the desert, though, and from there to travel further east towards the Worldstone.
The crystal made a town portal
Be quick, though, as Kefka has already been travelling among the worlds, and has been gaining power by collecting materia, a form of crystal in the 7th fantasy. Very few are aware of his strength and progress, so you hurry before he is too powerful.
They took the town portal, and when he appeared int he middle of town, Luneth charged right up to him and gave him a hug.
You did it! Everyone here can feel the cloud of darkness moving onward. East, actually. I think that's where the worldstone is, right?
Yes. We killed Andariel, one of the demons I've read about. I had no idea she was beneath the cathedral, but I suppose I should have. I knew she was weak to fire, and so I did this!
Arc threw a twister through the campfire int he middle of town and blew it toward Gheed's shop. Before it hit he blew it out with an Arctic Blast, just to be sure nothing bad happened.
Well, I'm glad you were a scholar before you were ever a geomancer, because I wouldn't want to have lost you. . . Hey! I'm ddone my training. We can leave. I've mastered spears and polearm class weapons. Check it out!
Luneth stabbed at the air in a few directions, one handed.
You don't only use one hand to do that, do you?
No no, I just thought I'd show off a bit. I'm much faster when I use a 2-handed jab.
Okay, good. Where's Warriv?
He's already prepared the caravan. We thought you would be back soon. Let's go.
I have to say bye to Wendy, first. . .
I hope we meet again, Arc. Because if we do, the world will have already been saved. I wish you good luck on your quest.
Thank you, Wendy. I wish you luck in clearing up the rest of the woods and marsh. There are surely monsters about still, and you've fought the toughest in the region. The camp relies on you.
They went east.
